Apple today seeded the fourth betas of upcoming iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 updates to developers for testing purposes, with the betas coming two weeks after Apple seeded the third betas of iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2.

Registered developers are able to download the iOS 16‌.2 and iPadOS 16.2 profiles from the Apple Developer Center, and once installed, the beta is available over the air.

iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 include the Freeform app, which can be used for jotting down notes, sketching, drawing, brainstorming ideas, creating mood boards, and more. Multiple people can work on the same Freeform board, with changes synced for all participants in real time.

For the iPad, iPadOS 16.2 brings external display support to the Stage Manager multitasking feature, allowing up to eight apps to be used at once. External display support is available for the M1 and M2 iPad models.

Apple has added a new Home app architecture coming in iOS and iPadOS 16.2, which Apple says is designed to bring faster, more reliable performance, especially in homes with a lot of smart home accessories. The new architecture requires the HomePod 16.2 beta software, and it causes the Home app not to work with devices updated to iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, or macOS Ventura 13.1.

Unintentional Emergency SOS calls can be reported to Apple in iOS 16.2, there's a new Sleep widget, live sports scores are back for the TV app, there are changes to always on display on the iPhone 14 Pro, and more, with full details available in our iOS 16.2 feature guide. iOS 16.2 is expected to see a release in mid-December.

Are we going to get the official version of iPadOS with external display support in about two weeks?
How is 16.2.4 in this respect?

Stage Manager

Resolved in iOS & iPadOS 16.2 beta 4

  • While using Stage Manager with an External Display, dragging a second window to the workspace incorrectly hides the Recent Apps list—shifting all windows in the workspace to the right. (98540114)
Not much in dev notes

Anyone else getting an error downloading the beta? Any idea how to resolve? Trying on my ipad

Hopefully this solves my rather odd issue of my 11“ M1 Pro charging after a restart, but then losing the ability and needing a restart. Charges fine on older versions and after a total reset without profile.

It seems like the security update has vanished or maybe I’m looking at wrong bit.

I hope Apple fixes the notes app on iPad. It’s been a mess since iPadOS 16, frequently glitching away parts of handwritten notes, there’s often lag between Apple Pencil and drawing, the tilt controlled eraser was removed for no good reason, and trying to select large portions of hand written notes is now nightmarishly difficult.

I’ve relied on my iPad for handwritten notes and working calculations, but if anyone has a good suggestion for a replacement app, I’d love suggestions.

Oh the Lockscreen is crazy buggy in beta 4. (iPhone 11 Pro Max) I can't even begin at which parts it does not behave as expected. Like 70% of the Interaction/Animation is bugged to hell and back. Integration hell for sure.

"there are changes to always on display on the iPhone 14 Pro"

Awhile back, a user here reported screen burn on their 14 Pro (or Pro Max). Is this maybe to address that? My oldest daughter got a 14 Pro Max back in October, and after I told her about the possible screen burn issue, she turned off the always on display in Settings.

How are we doing on that wifi drift issue? I still have to manually connect to my router when I get home at night and it's getting old.
