Apple Seeds iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 Release Candidates

Apple today seeded the release candidate versions of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 for final testing purposes, with the update coming a week after Apple released the eighth betas. These will be the last beta updates of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 before the software's public release, as long as no bugs are found.

Registered developers and public beta testers can download the betas from the Settings app on the iPhone or iPad by going to the General section and selecting Software Update.

iOS 27 introduces Apple's smarter version of Siri, Siri AI. Siri AI is a chatbot similar to ChatGPT, incorporating general world knowledge, personal data from apps like Messages and Mail, and onscreen awareness to answer questions and find information for you.

There are new Apple Intelligence features in apps like Photos, Safari, Shortcuts, Wallet, and Passwords, plus Apple added a standalone Siri app that houses Siri conversations. Write with Siri is available systemwide for generating text or offering feedback on your writing, and Visual Intelligence has been relocated to the Camera app with a new Siri mode.

Apple improved the look of Liquid Glass and added a slider for customizing transparency. There are multiple performance improvements to speed up iOS, so everything feels faster, even on older iPhones. Apps launch quicker, AirDrop transfers are faster, the keyboard pops up more quickly, and devices are better at transitioning between Wi-Fi and Cellular to keep you connected.

RC is out for all devices that support it, judging by the size of the updates compared to the developer betas prior to this RC my guess is that the RC released in the EU is stripped of Siri AI....

The new health app is supposed to come out "later this year"....I guess they didn't want to spoil the new Health app with the people on betas at the time.

I can't upgrade my 15" MacBook Pro 2015 from macOS 13.7.8 (OCLP) to macOS 27.0 RC but I can upgrade my iPhone 11 Pro Max from iOS 18.7 to iOS 27.0 RC, should I?

I have a feeling that iOS 26.6.2 is the last iPSW so for anyone who wish to stay on iOS 26.x install it now for iOS 26.7 will just be OTA just like iOS 18.6.2 was the last iPSW while iOS 18.7 was OTA.

I am now on 26.6.2 on my 15 Pro. Today I made an encrypted backup to my iMac. I can now install the iOS 27 RC and still go back to 26.6.2 if I want? Simply by restoring from backup?

It went to the developer right before public, like a few minutes before is what I noticed. So basically same time it seems.

Grabbed it OTA just after it went live on the Public Beta track. Downloaded and installed in 20 mins or so. Joined the Apple/Siri AI waiting list and was downloading that mins later. On iPad Pro M4 11” WiFi only.

Will leave it to index over night whilst charging (ditto my iPhone Pro 17). Impressed with the app launching speeds etc so far. Feels very Snow Leopard (a very good thing for those of us of a certain vintage).

RC is usually my jumping off point if there's a feature that I'm genuinely excited about. If the betas were flaky I might wait a day or two, but iOS 27 betas seem to have been relatively smooth for folks. Here I go!
