So when do see media invites from Apple? A week before the event?

Prediction, invites go out Sept 3 just as the samsung Note 4 is unveiled.

Note 4 becomes irrelevant, samfans , apple fans :D, media go  biggest (pun intended) change to iPhone since original Iphone

Does this mean the final version of iOS 8, won't have any more battery life improvements than beta 5??

I was expecting iOS 8 to have better battery life than 7.

But right now it is pretty bad, I was assuming that's because it is in beta, but sounds like there is not much more coming

seems like the initial release is going to be buggy if there are that many remaining issues with basic functionality

I'm sure optimization will be a key point of emphasis between now and the GM. I will expect it to be much better than Beta 5.

What???!!!! No larger screen size?????!!!!

And that is why they are not broad distributing the final iOS beta. Apple does not want to release the supported screen sizes before launch. Also, I bet there is NFC support in it for carrier beta testing.

I really hope they will fix the following before the iOS 8 GM:

Yosemite B6 Release Notes said:
Migrating to iCloud Drive will disable Documents & Data syncing for your iCloud account on OS X Mavericks and earlier Macs, as well as iOS 7 and earlier devices.

Or it will be another PR disaster for Apple.

Still can't figure out why you can't see your Photo Stream in a separate album like on iOS7. I've done everything under the sun to try and get it back, but nothing. Hoping that is something that gets added back before the GM.

AFAIK it won't be added back - iCloud Photos replaces Photo Stream.

Could it be because they have a major new feature to launch and they don't want to spoil it by releasing to devs?

Presumably it would reveal some iPhone 6 features.

I seem to remember a beta of iOS 4.3 showed off the iPad 2's 'Photo Booth' 'Camera' and 'FaceTime' app icons before the iPad 2 was announced.

Can I just confirm, in iOS 8, are you able to add photos to an existing album?

The constant questions about battery life and such are why the general public should never be allowed to have betas like this.

Every single year, the same stupid questions come out around a product that is meant to be used in testing for developers to get their apps ready. It is not meant to be a daily driver for you to get the new stuff before everyone else.

Sheesh.

camera flashlight off shortcut?

Any one else notice in the build 5, the double tap on camera icon on lock screen doesn't turn off the flashlight off anymore? wtf? bug or planned?

I hope Beta 5 is not the "last build" before "Gold Master"

I love iOS8 but in my opinion it's not ready for the masses yet and has enough room for improvement to allow for a couple/few more beta's to be tested and issues flushed out.

As a developer, I kinda thought they want us to test our applications. There were things that worked up till beta 4 that broke in beta 5. I guess GM will hopefully be final code (and yes it might not be).

This makes no sense. This thread clearly states that there's a Beta 6 but it's not being seeded, it's just not being seeded to all of the developers like the previous betas.

Usually, I would be right there with you. But given the state of iOS 8 in beta 5, I can definitely wait if it means a better product. Not really many show-stopping bugs, but tons of little ones that detract from the overall experience.

and this is different than any other beta software release how..?

Interesting, so the GM is approaching - good.

I can't wait. I'm not on the beta so I've been sitting patiently on the side lines.

I'm in the same position. While I would love to get the betas along the way, I'm not a registered DEV and respect the process.

I did find some references to at least 1 new screen size in the SDK.

The iPhone 5/s/c uses the "568h" naming within the SDK.

I can't answer for beta 5, but from the light perusing I've done in the iOS8 forums, feedback has been mostly positive.

So B5 has been a bit more unstable?

Not for me. I loaded B2 on my iPad, but I waited until B5 to load on my iPhone, because I didn't want to risk instability on my daily driver.

I've found B5 to be pretty darn stable. In fact, a couple of times I forgot I was using it...

Apple only releases betas to developers so they can begin enhancing their apps for the new version of iOS.

While they do allow developers to submit bug reports, that is not the main objective of releasing betas. Apple issues much more frequent internal betas that are used to work through all of the issues during development. The last beta we received was probably already several weeks old at the time it was released to developers. Even the new beta pushed to carriers is likely several weeks old. Apple's internal testing is much further ahead, and will be ready for GM release in a few weeks time.
