Not sure about 4.2 being rock solid. There seems to be quite a bit of chatter about wifi disconnection issues in 4.2. Don't know how wide spread it is but several forums seem to be mentioning it.

There is little doubt that the 4.2 GM will become 4.2 final. I will concede that 4.2.1 will come in very short order, likely to solve that WiFi issue, and close some more jailbreak holes.

Why in the hell are they working on 10.6.6 when they can still fix/add/change it to 10.6.5. this seems retarded to me.

X.6.5 will allow for AirPrint/iOS4.2 which you need iTunes 10.1 to install
X.6.6 will allow Mac App Store which you're going to need iTunes 10.2 to install...along with minor graphics, printer, etc updates.

i thought with the Shatter exploit there is no more closing jailbreak holes. That's the point of that exploit. Until new hardware is released it won't matter what update comes out. Unless i'm totally wrong on this...

They didn't use shatter tho they used something similar. Tho it only is part of the jailbreak so we always have a tethered jailbreak. The untethering part can be fixed.

Perhaps there'll be a surge of plug-in wifi print server modules? Upgrade your old printer...

Failing that; jb and get OSX installed on the new appleTV.
Edit; scratch that; wrong USB port isn't it. :(

Can't install OSX on it anymore anyway. It uses an ARM chip now.

Well, OS 10.6.6 is a 3MB update that only does one thing: change something with package install receipts in preparation for the Apple-sanctioned App Store. It will probably be released a few weeks after 10.6.5.

No. CUPS resides on OSX. The Extreme is simply transferring the raw data to the printer. The drivers reside on a computer or in the printer in the case of the AirPrint compatible ones.
Who knows, CUPS may very well be in the printer for the AirPrint-compatible models. Not that it makes a huge difference how it's implemented, though - as long as it Just Works (tm).

The printer needs only one driver, it's own. An AEBS would need every driver and sufficient Unix underpinnings and a sufficient CPU. It has none of these. It's possible that some form of online driver download could happen to allow the AEBS to download the driver but with it's limited RAM and need to operate as a disk host and router at the same time, it's just far too underpowered.

I'm excited about AirPrint. I'm so tired of usb printers hanging off another computer or Airport that just doesn't work quite right. I hope AirPrint works as abvertised. Oh and that it gets here soon, ya know before Christmas.

AirPlay

Forget Airprint, I want Airplay! I can't wait to stream songs from my iPhone to my airport express!

We could all start downloading these updates simultaneously, and Akamai's network wouldn't skip a beat.

Can't wait for 4.2.
