Apple today provided developers and public beta testers with the release candidate version of an upcoming macOS Sequoia 15.1 update, with the new software coming one week after Apple released the seventh beta.

Registered developers can opt-in to the macOS Sequoia beta through the Software Update section of the System Settings app. An Apple ID associated with an Apple Developer account is required to get the beta.

macOS Sequoia 15.1 introduces the first Apple Intelligence features, adding support for Writing Tools, new Siri features, Smart Replies in Mail and Messages, Priority messages in the Mail app, Memory Movie and Clean Up in Photos, and more.

The update does not include Image Playground, Genmoji, or more advanced Siri functionality.

Using Apple Intelligence features requires a Mac that has an Apple silicon chip.

If new MacBooks are to be released next week, it only seems logical that the software be ready for them…
By the way, does anyone know if Apple intends to upgrade the Books app? It really deserves it, to say it politely.

My iMac M3 and MBA M2 still hasn't auto updated. I wonder if its waiting for this update before it does its thing.

Comparison of MacOS 15.1 RC to previous MacOS 15.1 Beta 7

macOS 15.1 RC (24B82)
  • Safari Version 18.1 (20619.2.8.11.9)
  • System Firmware Version: 11881.41.5 (M1 based Macs)
  • Darwin Kernel Version 24.1.0: Thu Oct 10 21:05:14 PDT 2024; root:xnu-11215.41.3~2/RELEASE_ARM64_T8103 arm64
macOS 15.1 Beta 7 (24B5077a)
  • Safari Version 18.1 (20619.2.8.11.9)
  • System Firmware Version: 11881.41.5 (M1 based Macs)
  • Darwin Kernel Version 24.1.0: Thu Oct 10 22:07:16 PDT 2024; root:xnu-11215.41.3~5/RELEASE_ARM64_T8103 arm64
Apple Music/TV is still 1.5.1.24 , no change.

Notice how we won't have any chance of a RC2 because nothing really changed with the RC and beta 7.

Looks like Apple downgraded the developer beta from 15.1 to 15.0.1...

Downloaded this via Terminal but if I launch it just nothing happens.

AppStore still shows Beta 7:

I could swear I saw the new build number there before I downloaded it. Also the installer i downloaded was modified two days ago.

I was going to ask if after I download the RC will I have to download the release version in a weeks time anyway.
I do see a change in the Darwin Kernel "root:xnu-11215.41.3~5" vs "root:xnu-11215.41.3~2"

So far, so good. No updates to Safari, Music, etc. I hope I get better battery life now, without the logging, as the previous betas were horrendous (like 3 hours of battery life on the M3 Max).
