Apple today seeded a surprise release candidate version of macOS Sequoia 15.7, an update that will follow the macOS Sequoia 15.6 update from last week.

Developers can opt-in to the ‌macOS Sequoia‌ beta through the Software Update section of the System Settings app.

According to Apple's release notes, the update includes security fixes.
This update provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users.
Given the rapid escalation to release candidate status, macOS Sequoia 15.7 likely addresses a critical security bug. We'll likely see it released in the next few days.

Can anyone here check if the iPod 4th Gen monochrome syncs with this version again? Currently stuck on 15.3.2 because of a bug introduced with 15.4…
Thanks!

I temporarily switched to Dev Beta channel to install the 15.7 RC, now back to Release train. Strangely, I see Safari 26.0 Seed 1 available to install although Beta Updates are Off. Anyway, looks like Sequoia will get Safari 26 soon.

this update likely will launch alongside 26 in September.
more evidence for this is that Ventura was dropped.
that usually happens in September.

I guess they're not doing .x.1 releases anymore?
oh well, security fixes are a good thing and I for one like them
Maybe they would use point releases when there is a re-issue - for example when some people have problems installing an update? - rather than when there is an update which affects security.

Very strange update. Better wait if the final version might get a new build number.

It activated Apple Intelligence. It always was turned off before. Also some other strange things happened. Masses of notifications of added Spotlight stuff, Dock tiles, other Extensions even for apps I never opened.

It also asked before the update finally had finished for my network connection. I skipped it with choosing "No Internet" because my manually added DNS servers were not listed. Internet was working though and the DNS settings still were the same as before. I am connected via Ethernet and Wi-Fi always gets turned on automatically after an update. So there were even two working connections. This never showed up before after an update.

There was also this and not working, but just gone after a reboot:

I also can't find a full installer for direct downloading. The one released yesterday has the 15.6 build number in the corresponding file. So I better don't post the link. There are also new installers for Sonoma and Ventura, didn't check those.

Not sure where the article here found release notes, there are not any in the Developer Portal.

That's only what I found out in the first minutes after updating. It downloaded while I was sleeping.

But there was no update yesterday in the evening. I searched for updates when I saw there was a YouTube video in my subscriptions about Beta 5 of 26. I searched for updates and there was nothing. It already was 2-3 hours after the release.

Very strange everything. Maybe I'll find even more strange stuff.

If it were a real 15.7 then wouldn't it use a 'H' build number rather than reusing 'G' which was 15.6?

I don't know the meaning of that letter but it is number 7 in the alphabet. 24 is the Kernel Version, but it's a .6 (Darwin 24.6.0). No letter at the end means RC or final.

What is the Kernel Version of 15.6? (About this Mac - System Report - Software)

@frou

Seems you are right. A=0, G=6.

This installer got released yesterday and it's again the 24G84 build, so 15.6. You can see the number if you exchange the last letter of the link with an h. It's just a small text file then.

Edit: https://swdist.apple.com/content/do...45p4qectnt7r52qwt9vuzfw1/InstallAssistant.pkm

The number in here is always counting from zero too and replaces the letter.

Either they exchanged the link after releasing a wrong update or I don't know...

Looking back at the release history of macOS X.7 updates, they seem timed to hit around the same time as the public releases of that year's new OS.

Ventura and Sonoma moved from 'G' to 'H' builds, however Monterey stayed on 'G' builds.

macOS 13.7 and 14.7 went straight to RC (followed by an RC2) so there is precedent for releases like the one yesterday.

There was no beta too for this one. It didn't even say RC for the update. I thought it was a final already.

Those are the build numbers of the Sonoma and Ventura full installers released yesterday. I don't even know what version number they are at the moment and if those numbers also are the same as before.

23.H.723
22.H.625

Edit: The answer is in your post. Sorry. 🙈

Was Monterey getting an RC update too yesterday? There is no installer in the catalog.
