Apple has released a new Safari 8.0.1 beta for developers running OS X Yosemite, along with a Safari 7.1.1 beta for Mavericks and a Safari 6.2.1 beta for older versions of OS X.

The new Safari builds can be downloaded through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store. Safari 8.0.1 for OS X Yosemite requires OS X 10.10 or 10.10.1, while Safari 7.1.1 for OS X Mavericks requires OS X 10.9.5 and Safari 6.2.1 for OS X Mountain Lion requires OS X 10.8.5.

In the beta notes for Safari 8.0.1, Apple asks developers to focus on features like Extension compatibility, WebGL graphics on Retina displays, Password AutoFill, and more.
Focus Areas
Please focus testing on the following areas:
- General website compatibility
- Extension compatibility
- WebGL graphics on Retina displays
- Password AutoFill when passwords are synchronized across multiple devices
- Syncing history between devices (OS X Yosemite only)
- Importing usernames and passwords from Firefox (OS X Yosemite only)
In addition to a Safari update, Apple is also working on the first OS X Yosemite update, OS X 10.10.1, which asks developers to focus on Wi-Fi, Exchange accounts in Mail, and the Notification Center.

Nice to see Apple still updating iOS 6.

Ahaha! So I wasn't the only person to read the title (but not the article) and substitute "Safari" for "iOS"

Protip (Not to sound mean or anything): At least read PART of the article before posting. I've gotten flamed for this before...

I wish they wouldn't have shelved the Windows version.

IE is a piece of crap.
Firefox is what I use, but it seems like a RAM hog.
Chrome... just... no. **** YOU, GOOGLE.

Apple... pwetty pwease?

They can all be downloaded from the mac dev center.

In the case of 8.0.1 if you have yosemite developer betas, you can also get it from the mac app store in updates tab.

Oops. Actually, I did read part of the article, but read it as Safari for iOS 6.1.2. The human mind must want to see what it want to see lol. Thanks.

This is great. I was wondering why Safari wasn't being updated for 10.10.1.

One thing I would really like to see is mouse-less operation of the new tab view or whatever it's called. I usually have more than 30 tabs open at a time, and I really like that I can search through tabs while I'm in tab view. When I search though, and there is only one result, pressing Enter should just open up the tab, but currently, you have to select it with the mouse.

I filed a radar saying I would like to see the Enter key select and open up the tab in tab view, but I've not received any comments on it.

Nice to see some legacy support, some reach back but Apple really needs to go further. There are literally hundreds of millions of active iOS devices and Macs that can't use MacOSX greater than Tiger and 5.1.1. These devices are stuck with security vulnerabilities that are quite frankly a liability for Apple Corp in addition to Apple losing media content sales they could be making to the users of those users. It would benefit Apple and those users to reach back a little further to help keep all these machines in the fold. What they should do is make Yosemite work on Macs all the way back to 2000 and iOS 8 all the way back to the first iPhones. Simple graceful fall back on features the hardware won't support would achieve this while simplifying and unifying the operating systems.

Never going to happen, Apple has zero intentions of maintaining this type of support that Microsoft has fallen trap to, period.

They're also not legally entitled to support these EOL devices and unless the US congress passes some kind of laws (not likely because it would easily bankrupt many companies), Apple has no legal liability issues here.

The liabilities are on the companies who keep supporting these EOL devices in their network.

Favicons on tabs please and why can't we have more than a dozen tabs open without them overlapping? My 13" Macbook Air screen can easily accomodate 20+ open tabs, just give me the first 5-6 letters of the site and I'll know what it is, hiding them and making me scroll through tabs to find what I want is a waste of time and poor design.
