I'm forever stuck on "Preparing macOS Big Sur Beta 6...".
What is forever, just leave it for a while or even longer, there have been reports on earlier OS's that took forever but eventually they will install.

Yes, I have see the reports from others, but still it worked for me. I think there is a difference in SMB version and features (signing, etc) when connecting to a Mac Share via SMB as when trying to connect to SMB shares provided by a NAS or Windows Systems. I am accessing SMB shares configured on Macs and everything works ok for me.That didn't work me in the last dev beta. It didn't work for others either.

It works with SMB shares that have been created on a Mac running Big Sur and Catalina. Other SMB shares do not work.It doesn't work with SMB shares. Still a big show stopper for many people.

sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/smbfs.kext
Even with a current Samba version and vfs_fruits (many users don't know anything about this)? It works with SMB shares that have been created on a Mac running Big Sur and Catalina. Other SMB shares do not work.
This worked for me for todays Big SUR public beta where SMB didn't work anymore:
Code:sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/smbfs.kext

“Quality control has completely evaporated”... or large engineering groups can’t fix (or roll back) issues in real time, which is why they engage in a *beta* - this is the quality control process. Today they’ve pushed a new build fixing some issues, others many be bigger projects or have dependencies that aren’t yet resolved. All of these issues are being tracked, and each beta build isn’t a attempt at 100%, just incrementally fixing the backlog and deploying. SMB will be fixed, and it will go through a final QC (golden master) before going to the end user. Apple (and all large firms) take quality control seriously because when it goes to end users they will receive support tickets which == cost.
The update was a bit wonky. At first it showed no progress with download. So I restarted and then I saw the downloaded MB progress. But later a off version of the dialog telling your computer will be shutting down, but no buttons. So I restarted and it started to boot, then finally the updater portion restarted the Mac and it completed.
Anybody have issues with parallels? PB2 caused kernel panics when using Parallels.
No problems with VMware Fusion Tech Preview and this beta. I think I will drop the $50/year extortion from Parallels.I think I'm seeing the same!

YES! At least using Parallels 16, I had to swap to the Apple Hypervisor as the Parallels one insta-Kernel Panic'd my MacBook Pro. And that's right after I dropped the $50 to upgrade from Parallels 11 that was working A-OK under Catalina even.

I'll re-check the Parallels Hypervisor but not expecting much yet.
Just tried this, sadly no joy. This worked for me for todays Big SUR public beta where SMB didn't work anymore:
Code:sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/smbfs.kext

I know they're just icons, but the ones for Messages, FaceTime and App Store really bother me and look so unpolished. I did provide feedback to Apple, but the icons have already been in use for so long... At least songs are playing in Music again.
not seeing this on my 2019 15 MBP, sleep & wake works fine wether lid is open or closedSleep issue still happening while lid is open, will go to sleep after 2 minutes once the new update is installed, then it won't work anymore, no sleep issues when lid is closed, only when open.
does anybody recommend updating my MacBook pro 2020 to this beta... its my only MacBook im really curious to try it out
