That didn't work me in the last dev beta. It didn't work for others either.
Yes, I have see the reports from others, but still it worked for me. I think there is a difference in SMB version and features (signing, etc) when connecting to a Mac Share via SMB as when trying to connect to SMB shares provided by a NAS or Windows Systems. I am accessing SMB shares configured on Macs and everything works ok for me.

3.29GB and it tells me it’s going to take 8h to download... well I guess a lot of people are downloading it right now.

Anyone running Norton on this beta? I uninstalled it because the previous beta had a lot of issues with it...

The update was a bit wonky. At first it showed no progress with download. So I restarted and then I saw the downloaded MB progress. But later a off version of the dialog telling your computer will be shutting down, but no buttons. So I restarted and it started to boot, then finally the updater portion restarted the Mac and it completed.

See VP9 working in Safari (Youtube) to 4K, but not AV1?

Logitech G Hub said I had a update for the 502 Hero mouse, that didn't work with Big Sur B5, but was working with Big Sur B6. At least something better.

Siri works better in B6, B5 it was a bit erratic.

It doesn't work with SMB shares. Still a big show stopper for many people.

It works with SMB shares that have been created on a Mac running Big Sur and Catalina. Other SMB shares do not work.

I can't connect to any Windows shares via SMB, even with that command you linked to. If I run VMWare Fusion, the windows shares in there don't work either. Similar error to the Mac side. Regardless, this is a big showstopper for some people. There is a terminal command that fixes it for some people, but not the command that you mentioned. It'll be fixed soon though, most likely in the next beta.

Even with a current Samba version and vfs_fruits (many users don't know anything about this)?

I hope that SMB works in the final. Otherwise it would be a joke again.Apple charges premium prices... SMB is only one example. Because of such deficits, I haven't bought a Mac for over 7 years now and have hardly invested any money in the Mac platform.
If Apple can't do the basics, even the best Apple Silicon Chip is useless. All Mac users should take a much closer look at such bugs and deficits.

sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/smbfs.kext

...worked for me too, I can now access the shares on my PC media server...

“Quality control has completely evaporated”... or large engineering groups can’t fix (or roll back) issues in real time, which is why they engage in a *beta* - this is the quality control process. Today they’ve pushed a new build fixing some issues, others many be bigger projects or have dependencies that aren’t yet resolved. All of these issues are being tracked, and each beta build isn’t a attempt at 100%, just incrementally fixing the backlog and deploying. SMB will be fixed, and it will go through a final QC (golden master) before going to the end user. Apple (and all large firms) take quality control seriously because when it goes to end users they will receive support tickets which == cost.

Either Apple knew about the SMB issue or they didn’t. Since the Developer beta was released several days before and people had already been reporting the issue, I find it difficult to believe that Apple released the Public beta not knowing about the SMB issue.

When a rather serious issue like this appears in the Developer beta, the sensible thing to do would have been to postpone the Public beta release until the issue can be resolved. Since Apple chose to release the Public beta with the SMB issue present, we can only conclude that they put the SMB file sharing connectivity at a lower priority than some other items that were rolled out in this release. I am curious to know what items Apple considered essential to roll out despite the SMB issue. Some new emoji?

BTW no SMB connectivity could also mean losing access to Time Machine backups for certain users.

I think I'm seeing the same!

Anybody have issues with parallels? PB2 caused kernel panics when using Parallels.

YES! At least using Parallels 16, I had to swap to the Apple Hypervisor as the Parallels one insta-Kernel Panic'd my MacBook Pro. And that's right after I dropped the $50 to upgrade from Parallels 11 that was working A-OK under Catalina even.

I'll re-check the Parallels Hypervisor but not expecting much yet.

No problems with VMware Fusion Tech Preview and this beta. I think I will drop the $50/year extortion from Parallels.

Sleep issue still happening while lid is open, will go to sleep after 2 minutes once the new update is installed, then it won't work anymore, no sleep issues when lid is closed, only when open.

I know they're just icons, but the ones for Messages, FaceTime and App Store really bother me and look so unpolished. I did provide feedback to Apple, but the icons have already been in use for so long... At least songs are playing in Music again.

ya I hear you. Hate the shading.

I could get along with the iOS 14 icons. they dont suck.

But the new UI is good. When I go back to my Catalina machines they feel very old fashioned now and I don't like using them as much. This is my metric if the improvements are real.

End of an Era: Mac OS X (10.x) is finally over after a generation. It is finally time for Mac OS 11 to launch! I waited half a decade for this.

not seeing this on my 2019 15 MBP, sleep & wake works fine wether lid is open or closed
