Well I planned to buy an unibody MacBook pro the same day apple changed the configuration bumping it to 2.66ghz and now I planned again and there's snow leopard peeking and that is just resisting my dream of buying a Macbook just flipped my fingers crossed to see what's the next surprise from Apple going to be.

Didn't understand a word of that

Whats weird is that in my history of using OSX (since Panther 10.3) I have never had a problem or an issue that needed to be fixed. But still they release updates.

I just look forward to performance improvements. I always like when the update graphics drivers <3

Well I planned on buying a Unibody MacBook Pro on the day that Apple silently updated the CPU to 2.66Ghz

I subsequently decided on that course of action for a second time and now that Apple is releasing Snow Leopard soon I just don't know what to do and I am resisting my dream of buying this Macbook Pro.

Performing ninja like skills with my fingers and using zen like mind control I am going to wait and see what Apple is going to do.
:D:D

So my question is this...

Just bought a RADEON HD 4870 not realizing it wouldn't work in my Mac Pro (dummy me).

Should I return it or wait for 10.5.7 which should run this card?

And anyone got any firm info on the Tuesday March 17 release?

Thanks

B

How did you even buy the card considering it has a 5-7 week estimated shipping date at the moment?

If you bought a new Mac Pro with 4870 in it, you don't need 10.5.7 to use the card.

I dunno...maybe he bought something like this?

Not everyone buys their parts from Apple. I used to build PC's from parts off of NewEgg before I switched. I've never upgraded my mac because it is a newer MBP, but I would assume that if its the same chipset then the Apple driver would work fine with it. Correct? Though it may void the warranty, unless he didn't purchase Apple Care and its out of warranty anyway.

I'm really tempted right now to part and price out a Core i7 Hackintosh. Wonder if kexts are available for it yet. I haven't messed with OSX86 since I sold my old Inspiron 9300.

I bought the 4870 @ Best Buy thinking it would work in my Mac Pro not realizing that it required 10.5.7

Right now I have the stock ATI Radeon HD 2600 that came with the Mac Pro running 2 monitors, but now I want to add a video card for my HD tv. So basically I am wanting 3 monitors.

Should I stick with the 4870 and wait for 10.5.7 or is there another vidoe card that will work with the current 10.5.6 that I can pick up easilly.

Thanks

I didn't pay attention in recent years (switched to laptops), but they used to come with a different firmware. Since the Intel-switch they might have changed this, but given the price difference I doubt it.

Well with this kind of thinking, you wont get far. These things change by day. And i am sure when Snow Leopard is out, new MBP will be announced a bit later:D.. And then new OS, and the circle never ends.:)

Its easy

Can I just ask. Is this Snow Leopard. I know it says 10.5.7 but i'm just wondering cus' its getting a bit confusing as sometimes there are posts saying 'Snow Leopard seeded to developers' and some that say '10.5.7 seeded to developers'. If not then does this include Quicktime X and the new Stacks features? Or is that 10.6. When will 10.6 be released?
When ever you see 10.5.X thats leopard.

Snow Leopard is 10.6.

Well Apple's site says that the HD4870 is supported on the 2008 and 2009 Mac Pro's and that you need OS X 10.5.6 or later. So according to there site you should be able to use the card if you have Update 6 installed.

What I am finding out now is that the 4870 needs to be flashed.

Now all I got to do is find a PC with a 16X slot to flash this damn card.

This has now become an obsession!!!

I will win over this card.

You dream of 10.5.7?

Of course? Who wouldn't dream of the small difference from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7.
And no, I don't think anyone would be dreaming of OS 11 or or OS X 10.6

Will this unlock the genius features "missing" from iTunes 8.1?

Yep! Along with making your Windows Vista partition, if you have one, be the best OS you can think of along with making you iPod or iPhone's battery last twice as long.

I installed it on my PB 1GHz with 512MB and its definately faster than Tiger :). WiFi is the only thing I am having problems with but I think its my laptop hardware since it was problem in Tiger :(.

no news about improvement of mail.app. i have bad experiences of mail. i hope mail.app will be improved in the new version or update.

The trouble being with the MacBook Pro for the next version - that it'll be out around Snow Leopard potentially (See the Buyer's guide MBP product cycle) but a mobile Core i7 CPU is a way away currently.
