Doesn't it depend if the game was built for DirectX to begin with? There's only so much performance you can get out of video, even with perfectly tuned drivers.

I don't know all the details, all I know is that if I purchase a game that has both Mac and PC versions, the Mac versions always run much slower. And that seems to be true of both games that were made for Mac by the original developer and those that were ported by another company. Certainly if it is how the game is built, shouldn't developers be building for which ever graphics system will perform best on the respective platforms?

----------

as an aside - this crashed my (previously) 100% functional vanilla hackintosh build. None of the new 10.9.3x builds work.

verbose boot mode indicates (hard to see) that the crash occurs at the last stage of loading video drivers. Hangs at white screen of death.

alas.

What video card are you using? For the longest time I have installed each point update and had no ill effects on my Hack. If 10.9.3 is going to bork me, I'll obviously wait till someone makes a patch.

This seems fast-tracked and focused. I wonder if it's in part to support new hardware. Such as a Thunderbolt 2 Display and a Thunderbolt 2 Retina Display.

Hey, a guy can dream! :D

hey friends

living in pakistan got the late 2013 rmbp 15 low end and as it came the sleep wake failure crash and those random restarts started to happen , gave it to the apple guys here and got it claimed for warranty for a new motherboard, got the new motherboard and having 10.9.2 os x still having the same problem of sleep/wake and restart while left on sleep for long !!! hope 10.9.3 fixes it

Yes, there seems to be 2 new ARB extensions, but no change in Open GL 4.2+ support, I'm afraid:
Apple supports only what the iGPU supports (Haswell Iris Pro = OpenGL <= v4.1). I think the OpenGL v4.2 support is a sign that they work already on the Broadwell iGPU drivers. Not surprising that they work at the same time on the 4K support.

Hopefully, we keep seeing "focus on graphics drivers".. currently the nMP (d3,5,700 series) gpu's preform ridiculously better under windows.

10% is a start.

Any fixes for the random networking failures?

How about "fixes" for the waste of system resources with all the new system services and processes added in Mavericks and the networking activity by the "gamed" process?? If I'm not running Game Center or playing Game Center apps, why the frack is the gamed process running and communicating on the Internet?

UI Animations

How's the GPU performance or the UI Animations smoothness on older Macbook Pros with Nvidia cards? Like the mid-2010 13" Macbook Pro?

All versions of OpenGL 4.x, including 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4, are compatible with all hardware that supports OpenGL 4.1 right now.

The Haswell Iris Pro's OpenGL drivers in Windows (developed by Intel) support OpenGL 4.2 and about half of OpenGL 4.3 right now, with updates/improvements coming fairly quickly.

MSI GTX 660 OC (Twin Frozr)

I follow a lot of forums. Still haven't found rhyme or reason for the fail.

One of the possible reasons for slower GPU performance compared with Windows might be the old driver versions Apple uses: i.e. 10.9.2 still on 310.40 which was released by Nvidia 1 year ago!

In 1 year a lot of fixes/optimisation will have happened by Nvidia to their drivers (windows users are currently on 335.23..)

It's part drivers and part the fact that a lot of games are written using DirectX first with the OpenGL using version being a port of this code. Then we also have wrappers like Cider (which used to be pretty commonly used) and other solutions like Valve's ToGL Direct3D-to-OpenGL translation layer which don't exactly boost performance.

The best graphics performance comparisons are done using native OpenGL-benchmarks (like Uniengine Haven) and in those OSX isn't that badly behind anymore.

With the new safari 7.0.3 I'm sure that scrolling in websites is smoother on rMBP

Can anyone post a list of GPU driver versions in 10.9.3 beta? (including older Nvidia cards).

Which cards? No issues with Duet 2.

I have the Scarlett 6i6 and since i've updated to Mavericks i have glitches very often. Maybe my iMac is getting old but with ML I had no issues.

EDIT: I have the latest drivers from Focusrite, specially made for Mavericks.
