and they really should. yes they would have to wade through a lot of crud, but, there is a whole lot of valuable feedback here as well. ;)

I highly doubt that. Actual valuable feedback always include logs, steps to reproduce and any relevant information. And most of the complaints about Yosemite on these boards has been "the Finder icon sucks" or "the volume overlay doesn't look good" which they already have a lot of feedback on.

I may have solved one of my own problems with Yosemite.

The Wifi I already solved by manually configuring the setup. Why Apple hasn't come up with the correct automatic configuration I don't know, but they still haven't. I believe most people can fix that themselves.

But I seemed to have found a compatibility issue between Yosemite and the SMC Fan Control extension. I used this in Mavericks because my Mac Pro is maxed out on drives and has a very hot graphics card. Worked fine in Mavericks, but in Yosemite, the higher fan speed appears to be making the operating system kernel panic, apparently noticing that the machine is not operating within normal limits. So far disabling the extension has seemed to add stability to the machine. This was ok in the GM version of Yosemite, but has gotten considerably worse in the betas. So I'll give this a try for awhile.

Are you sure that's what you did? Disabling OpenCL should not make everyday tasks on your computer slower. Only very few specialized programs even use OpenCL.

I didn't give the full details. I have an unusual set-up for very specific use case that takes a while to explain, but the end result is that I almost 24/7 am sharing my MBP's screen with a Mac mini over the Finder's built-in VNC connection. Whenever screen sharing would become disconnected or even disrupted, such as losing WiFi range, it would crash the MBP (which was using Yosemite). And I mean total crash. It only happens if screen sharing had been running for a while—I don't know the exact amount of time. But if you run it long enough it's 100% reproducible.

Anyhow, the Apple Developer Bug Report team gave me a code to enter into Terminal that turns off OpenCL for screen sharing. They said it would slow down my MBP in that it's using the CPU rather than GPU for sharing the screen's image.

This was the code:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteManagement.plist DisableOpenCL -bool yes

They told me to reverse it once 10.10.2 comes out.

Yeah, sorry, but I don't buy that. Windows 7 had plenty of bugs and updates. Windows 8 in itself is just one huge bug.

Upgraded my 2010 27" i7 iMac, Late 2013 15" MBPr, and my 2009 MBP to 10.10.2, no issues so far.

In fact, I found that Quickview (the feature I probably use the most because I do a lot of photo editing and review) works much smoother now on the older machines.

I hope they improve start up times . My i7 8gb 2012 MacBook pro takes a good 5 minutes to start up since upgrading to Yosemite. For my laptop specs it shouldn't take that long to start up. It has been running sluggish doing simple task. I regret upgrading.

Apple puts out quality hardware but their software quality is really taking a hit. If I pay a premium price for a laptop I expect premium performance.

When I hold the Option key and click on my WiFi symbol, I now get the option of: "Disconnect from router-name". I don't recall seeing that before this latest build.

Apple today seeded a fourth beta of OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite to developers...

Well, one question to all those that installed this beta, that it is a bit generic: how is 10.10.2's behaviour in comparison to 10.10.1? Is it more stable or responsive? I am not asking about bugs as it is still beta but it would be nice to know what to expect when 10.10.2 is out.

Thanks for your time!

Intel HD 4000/5000 driver version from 10.8.5 to 10.10.2

Hi guys, I have been downloading, unpacking and writing down the version of different drivers of some betas and release versions of the different OS X updates.

In the following lines, I copy the Intel HD Iris 4000/5000 driver from the last Mountain Lion version.

I think the most interesting thing to note is that Apple has updated the driver version in the last 10.10.2 version compared to the one that came with 10.10.0 and 10.10.1

I was testing between Mt Lion, Mavericks & Yosemite.

I can't see how anyone can say that Yosemite is faster.

The GM is slower for certain. The betas are even worse. Sometimes I just wait endlessly wondering if the machine is going to boot or not.

You shouldn't have to wait 5 minutes for a machine to boot.

Some of us have Mac Pro's with AMD 5770 or other graphics.

Apple hasn't really touched those problems or multiple display issues yet like booting to the wrong screen repeatedly. :(

----------

When I hold the Option key and click on my WiFi symbol, I now get the option of: "Disconnect from router-name". I don't recall seeing that before this latest build.

If you Option click with WIFI off, you get WIFI diagnostics options. Hmm.

I don't believe that for a second. Are you somebody who thinks WAKE FROM SLEEP is the same as STARTUP?

You must be because that emphatically cannot be true. Don't deceive people trolling here with bad info please. :(

----------

Ah, "finally" this fixed my sleep issue.
My Mac Mini 2012 refused to awake from sleep from earlier 10.10.2 beta's, it has been fixed now, hope for others too.

Not really. I fixed this problem by making my Hard Drives NOT be forced to go to sleep. I don't report this problem anymore. I just expect it with Apple :(

With one of the betas even the display going to sleep caused it to not come back! :(

Does this release fix the laggy UI (WindowServer process usage, menu bar redraw lag when switching displays)?

As much as I love my Macbook Pro, my Windows 8.1 workstation is rock solid my Macbook Pro seems to freeze up for unknown reason if I go more than 3 weeks without rebooting it. My previous Macbook Pro gave me random Grey screens of death.

I don't think you should be allowed to comment on Windows when clearly from your signature you don't run it full time.

I highly doubt that. Actual valuable feedback always include logs, steps to reproduce and any relevant information. And most of the complaints about Yosemite on these boards has been "the Finder icon sucks" or "the volume overlay doesn't look good" which they already have a lot of feedback on.

And I'll have to disagree. The streets are not always nice and pretty, but where the real action is. Lots to learn here if you know how to weed a bit. Stuff that will never appear in logs or "submit" reports.

By the way, loaded the new beta and everything went smoothly and so far seems great. There was some sort of IOBluetooth kext that wasn't in 10.0.1 that had no info.plist that I noticed when I did some terminal cache cleaning. Didn't seem to affect anything one way or the other.

My Mini now takes about a minute to start up, on the previous OS it took about 10 seconds."
There is a progress bar that comes on the screen and that wasn't there before, clearly a Yosemite issue.

Slow boot? Try this. If still slow, check your startupitems and launch daemon and launch agent folders for what is loading:

Clear the dynamic loader shared cache by booting one time is Safe mode.
Rebuild Kernel Extension Caches with a few terminal commands

The whole process will take you approximately 4 to 5 minutes to perform and you might just feel like your system is new again!

Step 1 : Clear the dynamic loader shared cache

So First: boot in safe mode by restarting your mac by holding the SHIFT key immediately after hearing the boot chime. When you reach the login window, don’t even log in, just hit restart.
Step 2 : Rebuild Kernel Extension Caches

Open a terminal window and type the following commands:

sudo chown root:admin /

(the system will ask your password to grant access to the sudo chown command as this requires admin privileges)

sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel

sudo kextcache -system-caches

That’s all there is to it!

Vm bug

Does this beta fix the bug where performance is severely reduce when using Vmware or parallels ?

This article proposes two actions:

Clear the dynamic loader shared cache by booting one time is Safe mode.
Rebuild Kernel Extension Caches with a few terminal commands

The article link doesn't work

This beta killed Logic 9 entirely for me for some odd reason seemingly related to a radeon driver bundle. Logic X still is fine. Anyone else tried this combination?

edit: (heard a 2nd report of this but on a MBP)

I hope they fix the damn WiFi connectivity problems I've been having since the upgrade to OS X Yosemite.

This is just unacceptable, it's been way too long and there is STILL NO FIX.

I'd like to be a supplier for Apple and see how they would react if I sold them not finished/working goods.

Of course we as customers just get screwed. Screw this!

No problem here, see attachment.

Have they redesigned the pop-up in 10.10.2?

Here is how it looks for me in 10.10.1:
