I didn't even make annual reinstalls on Windows 98, much less bi-annual!

Since Windows moved to the NT codebase with XP for consumer OS's I haven't cared much for these things at all, and never for OS X. I do think I'll give a reinstall a try soon though since my OS X is starting to become a bit too upgraded-on-upgraded-on-upgraded. I never did these things with Windows, but OS X has made me more confident. However, I suspect one recurring Safari crasher has something to do with it since nothing else hardlocks my machine occasionally. Other than this, my laptop is as fast and good as new. OS X is really nice in that regard. I think much has to do with a lack of Registry and overall a lack of "global system states" to be bothered with if you are an app. They have a good self-containment philosophy there with app bundles, where Windows apps often crap all over the system.

Isn't it great, how the App Store doesn't show the version of the pre-release build...
Now I've reinstalled the public beta (10.10.2 (14C94b) I so hastily got rid of due to some irritating issues, such as the dictionary gesture in Safari displaying a transparent window. Now this isn't a big deal, but this is the same build as the previous beta, so it didn't get the treatment the developer build get.
Here's to hoping the final version gets seeded within the next week as I'm really not in the mood to reinstall the whole OS :p

Mouse Pointer Disappears

Anyone elses mouse pointer keep dissapearing in Safari...?

Yes, I have seen this issue on several clients computers (iMacs and MacBook Pros).

This issue is a carryover from Mavericks.

I haven't had any serious WIFI issues until this update.

At this point every 20 minutes I see the WIFI signal dropping and having troubles sometimes reconnecting.

Running on a MBA 2012.

Still the persistent problem of not handling 2 or more displays properly, doesn't boot to the correct one. You end up booting to a blank screen.
Why is this such a problem to fix? It doesn't happen in Mavericks with the same displays nor in even Leopard!

I keep juggling and switching the connections, but there appears no solution to this problem! :(

I've noticed this since Mavericks as well. At least for me, it only does this on pages that include Flash.

Does this fix the menu bar icon redraw/flicker bug when using multiple displays? As well as severe UI lag after a day of use? Thanks

I often wonder just what it is about wireless connectivity that Apple struggles with. Bluetooth and WiFi seem to be among Apples weakest skills. You'd think after all these years they'd get tired of the repeated failures they've had.

It's the one area where Apple has no control over the hardware that users are connecting to. Making it the weak link in Apple's armour.

Hmmm, my issue with this build that started last build still exists. iTunes now asks for me to allow incoming connections. I'll delete it from the firewall preference pane and it will work one time, but then returns. How odd. Other than that, no issues at the moment.

Well, it's time for my bi-annual fresh OS install on this non-retina iMac. Considering the poorly rendered UI fonts and bugs of Yosemite, in exchange for turning the OS into a 13 year old girls fashion accessory, I guess I'm sticking with Mavericks, & not upgrading to Yosemite.

More than anything else I'm suddenly very happy about being stable and working, I got a decent version of iTunes back! With the sidebar! I don't have to hunt and peck all over the place to try to find everything! Ohhh, the past, how I love you. Now to keep auto-updates from raining on my parade.

Must be something else, I got quite a few mail on my iPhone, yet I haven't got one single mail on my Mac since January 12th, so before this update.
It was working before though, odd. (On the beta before this one)

Try rebooting once more. I find that OS X updates need a few reboots to get things going in the right direction.

If nothing happens, try disabling and re-enabling the accounts in Mail. Check the console to see if there's anything helpful.

Why are you reinstalling every 6 months? Are you doing something special to knacker the OS as it should not need reinstalling every 6 months

Just a little preventative maintenance / best practices habit I picked up from 20 years of being a CAD sysadmin in Windowsland. Garbage collects in nooks & crannies, clutter piles up, little glitches and shrapnel from old installs and uninstalls and updates and bug fixes and patches over patches over patches, and heavens only know what malware known or unknown finds its way in over the course of a year with any number of people monkeying around on it when you're elsewhere.

Though you may not notice the gradual slowdown every day, after about 6 months, windows, mac or linux, do a fresh install and it feels like getting a new machine. Fast, clean, crisp, everything sings along noticeably faster and smoother.

It's like changing the sheets on your bed when you realize you've let it go too long.

...if you think every 6 months is excessive, I worked with one firm that wiped everyones machines every night and reimaged them every morning before the employees showed up for work.
