Apple today seeded the RC version of an upcoming tvOS 14.4 update to developers for testing purposes, with the beta coming a week after release of the second beta.

Designed for the fourth and fifth-generation Apple TV models, the tvOS 14.4 developer beta can be downloaded onto the ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Apple TV‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ via a profile that's installed using Xcode.

Apple's tvOS updates are often minor in scale, focusing on under-the-hood bug fixes and improvements rather than major outward-facing changes. There's no word yet on what's included in tvOS 14.4 update, and there was nothing new discovered in the first beta.

Though we don't often know what's new in tvOS during the beta testing process, we let MacRumors readers know when new updates are available so those who are developers can download it upon release.

The main tvOS 14 update released in September brought expanded Picture in Picture support, new HomeKit integration with HomeKit Secure video cameras, support for multiple Apple Arcade profiles, and more, with details available in our tvOS 14 roundup.

have you guys generally been liking tvOS 14 more than 13 on a 1080p ATV4?

I need to update mine sometime

Here’s hoping for better reliability of stereo HomePods as default AppleTV speakers. Mine can’t remember their location; not sure whether AppleTV has anything to do with that or whether it’s just the HomePod OS when in stereo configuration. (My solo HomePod doesn’t have this problem.)

Maybe they’ve fixed the screensaver resets to aerial bug, but I doubt it. It’s only been present for at least 18 months over two tvOS versions!

No Spatial Audio for AirPods Pro/Max, minus dynamic head tracking.
Don’t think that feature will come to this gen Apple TV. I would love if they gave us some release notes instead of hoping to see what changed

Hoping it fixes the audio search that no longer works with Netflix - unless that's Netflix doing but it makes no sense why Netflix would block searches.

Probably not, at least in existing Apple TV models. As cool as dynamic head tracking is, I am not sure why Spatial Audio feature cannot work without it.

When they work they work fantastic but I like yourself have been having issues with them. the one thing that has annoyed men most is trying to control the volume, mine turns them down but when I try and turn them down totally one stays on which makes me think are these things not giving out equal volume?

On Apple TV 4K on a 4K TV it's pretty similar.
Maybe it's a little slower though, but nothing dramatical.

That is annoying, yes.

There's also more glitches in the TV streaming apps than earlier. (Though that might be the different vendors, and not Apple's fault.)

Nope. It's pretty glitchy, and slow. Apple REAALLLY needs to update the hardware.
I have the Apple TV 4, the HD one. Last couple of months the glitches have just become worse and worse.

I'll be upgrading to a new Apple TV 4K 2021 on day one after announcement, to accompany my new LG 65OLEDCX that will be arriving Tuesday. :)

huh? Mine works fine, whatever are you concerned about? BTW: its a screensaver

Are they updated? Mine do not do that at all, they work great. I'm on developer beta program so get to update frequently. Even today there is an update. Although no one reports the updates, it seems every time tvOS gets an update, homepods get one too (at least I think it is tvOS, as the updates have all dropped on the same day).

I don't like to use the default speaker feature for the homepods, it seems to not let you ask Siri to play music when they are "attached" to the appleTV even when asleep. So I disconnect before turning the TV off. Full disclosure, I haven't attempted to test this in awhile though.

Not seeing anything like that. Are you referring to something specific like games? I have never played and never will play games, so I wouldn't notice. Everything else works great

The glitches are maddening, aren't they? It's metaphorically like the Apple TV needs lubrication. For me, the sound suddenly goes half speed and the pictures stutter. This even happens on the Home screen at times. No rhyme nor reason for when it happens.

I never play games, either. It's slow. Freezes in Settings, sometimes. Cuts the signal to the tv sometimes, causing "no signal" to pop up on tv. Just plain annoying and slow. The slowness is annoying enough. I use mine for Apple Music a lot, and streaming apps like Hulu, HBO Max, etc.

Does it fix the dumpster fire that is the Library tab in the AppleTV app?

Library is broken across iOS experiences, all in different ways depending on what device it is.

Sounds like your internet connection, not Appletv. We have fiber, never seen this problem. We use Netflix, cnn, YouTube, prime, tv, Plex., Disney, Hulu And there are are a total of 6 Apple TV’s in various houses. All working great
Is yours one of the old ones?
Lastly, you might check if you have a lot of apps open. Call up task manager and flip apps up to close. I keep them pared down to 3 or 4. No idea if it does anything or if it is just old habits, but it’s what I do.
Your wifi could be saturated with devices overloading router. And there are some radio interference issues on wifi that could be impacting your devices

That’s another issue I’ve had too which is a pain
