Sounds like your internet connection, not Appletv. We have fiber, never seen this problem. We use Netflix, cnn, YouTube, prime, tv, Plex., Disney, Hulu And there are are a total of 6 Apple TV’s in various houses. All working great
Is yours one of the old ones?
Lastly, you might check if you have a lot of apps open. Call up task manager and flip apps up to close. I keep them pared down to 3 or 4. No idea if it does anything or if it is just old habits, but it’s what I do.
Your wifi could be saturated with devices overloading router. And there are some radio interference issues on wifi that could be impacting your devices
Nope.

The internet connection is 40+ Mbps. Easily checked.

This is not the 4K model - just the still sold HD model.

No apps running other than the TV stream we are watching. We don't use game apps or stream music through the Apple TV, either. Yeah, maybe we're just boring.

No WiFi interference - I checked. At least nothing persistent that happens when the Apple TV goes dumb. Nothing else running on the network when using the Apple TV, aside from occasional messages on an iPhone or iPad.

Restarting the Apple TV fixes it every time. If it was any of the above, you'd think it would persist after a restart.

This only began after some tvOS upgrade a while back.

One other note - this almost always takes place after scrolling through program selections on any one of the streaming apps or when scrolling through the home screen. Sometimes part way through a program. I have yet to make a correlation between the streaming app and this happening - it seems to affect all apps as well as the Apple home screen. The remote control cursor also starts skipping and stuttering at the same time, making it not so much fun to get to the Restart menu item. Un-powering and re-powering has the same effect as a Restart with this.

Hopefully it fixes the bug where Fitness+ loses connection with your watch if you're also doing a workout with AirPods or Powerbeats headphones in.

I hope it fixes the bug in the Apple TV 4 while playing Library music video playlists where video image size drops from full screen to about 25% when going from one video to the next.

have you guys generally been liking tvOS 14 more than 13 on a 1080p ATV4?

I need to update mine sometime

I jumped from 12 to 14, and haven't really noticed much difference, other than the new sidebar.

My usage is basic, though, mainly just using the major streaming apps, and not casting, or getting into the surround sound formats and such.

Does this support Dualsense yet? I have 3 Dualsense controllers which can't be used with Apple Arcade yet - one of my dualshock has a dodgy joystick so can't multiplayer at the moment :(

With Netflix increasing their pricing again, I'm tempted to cancel unless they integrate with ATV's TV app for Up Next and search etc. At this price, it seems ridiculous for them to refuse to play with the ecosystem.

Does anyone know if this fixes the issue where you can’t pause videos in the computers app without turning off surround sound?

We have four AppleTVs in the house - 2 4k, 2 HD - zero glitches, stutters, freezes. Something is not right with yours if you do. Or it's your internet connection like the other person suggested.
