A GM can have a succeeding version as well. Apple simply has retired the GM terminology in favor of RC because the latter isn’t racially loaded.

This change was made a couple of years ago and announced in the developer beta release notes.

…it was racially loaded? There were literal golden masters? I totally understand getting rid of the master/slave terminology for drives (not that it’s terribly relevant anymore) and black listing / white listing (block and allow makes more sense anyway) but this seems more like a scribe thing.

“Golden Master” used to be literal. Or at least figurative. The original was made of tougher material than the copies. Still a legacy term since the software is no longer distributed on optical discs.

I think the correct term now is “GA” for General Availability which also makes more sense.

I’m just conveying that Apple, and other companies for that matter, have moved away from specific terminology and what their reasoning behind it was. Terminology containing “master” is one of them; another is the term “blacklist.”

Apple, specifically, uses Release Candidate instead of Golden Master nowadays and “main” for main branches of code in distributed version control systems instead of "master."

I don't think your opinion on how that is or isn't warranted adds much to the topic; even so, political, religious, and social issues are better suited for the Political News subforum.

Faster focusing speeds while using Telephoto lens on 15 Pro Max models is a nice addition.

I ain’t touching it until it gets to 17.2.1 or even 17.2.2. I’m done jumping into new buggy software.

Well it did help teach me the words Apple uses today. So thank you for that. Heaven forfend anyone express an opinion that has even a hint of questioning the prevailing viewpoint.

An RC can be superseded. A GM isn’t. So the fact that they are one and the same the majority of the time doesn’t mean they ARE the same all the time.
Regardless, Apple stopped using the GM term and replaced it with "Release Candidate."

Well, it only took 12 years for the weather app to come to iPad. I don't understand the journal app, though. I feel like it makes the most sense for the iPad than anywhere else—use a keyboard, use your Apple pencil, etc.
Metadata. I think what Apple is going for is more about utilizing your own metadata than writing down the day's remembrances. With the former, your iPhone has much more of your personal metadata as most people carry it with them and use it as a tool to interact, not just with other people, but now objects and events throughout the day. Like Health App, much of that data could be synced to other devices but this is actually a logical first step. Hopefully it doesn't take as long as the Health App to make it to the iPad!

As the Apple Music syncing (Play Counts and Last Played) been fixed in this update or will next week be another disappointing week in Apple-Land.

it looks like they fixed Control Center stuttering bug, when dragged through apps

I only noticed this on the last few betas, but someone can correct me: When there is any precipitation, the weather widget no longer gives a temperature, only a reference to the rain or snow. I miss the temp.

Be very cautious with the Journal app.

The mask has dropped and we are seeing what fintech bros really want corporations to do.

The criminals at CNBC are rubbing their hands and gleefully salivating at the thought of corporations knowing every single thought in your head. In the article they appear to be totally enthusiastic about Google, which is a company infested with cyber criminals and frauds, having deep access to all your life.

Towards the end of the article they appear to want Apple to do the same thing.

'The team also demonstrated “Ellmann Chat,” with the description “Imagine opening ChatGPT Google but it already knows everything about your life.”

Since the initial release of iOS 17 and now with the 17.2 Release Candidate on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, I've been consistently facing issues with the Contacts app. I'm reaching out to understand whether these are widespread problems or if my experience is an outlier.

These Problems happen *most often only for very detailed Contacts (multiple E-mail Adr. with Emergency Bypass and more)

  1. Individual Contact Detail Page Glitches: In the detail page of a specific contact, the animations are anything but smooth. There's a noticeable stutter or jump or even data of a contact fading in and out multiple times. This issue isn't just occasional; it's a regular occurrence that disrupts the user experience.
  2. Facetime Button Instability: The Facetime button (Not the Button in the list of 4 Buttons on Top, but as a single full-width component directly under these 4 buttons) for contacts with multiple emails linked to Facetime seems unstable. The Component with Button itself keeps fading in and out, leading to confusion, ui rearrangement and difficulty in use.
  3. Erratic UI Behavior in Contact Details: This issue is mainly observed within a particular contact's page. Various segments and components within the page jump up and down, fade in and out erratically. Sometimes, this resolves itself after a few seconds without user interaction, but other times, it continues, rendering the app difficult to use.
  4. Misregistered Interactions: The jumping UI often leads to misregistered interactions. For example, attempting to copy an address might accidentally trigger a call due to the UI shifting unexpectedly.
  5. Wrong Contact Posters:The Contact Posters are not synced correctly and their animation (fade) when scrolling up/down is not playing correctly / is instant.

actually they didn't fix it...still getting stutters when drag the control center in apps. Does someone has the same issue ? I'm on 13 mini

Don’t know about anyone else but my iPhone 15 Pro Max is extremely sluggish after this update. 😔☹️🥺

Sadly, this seems to be the case. What genius at Apple's weather app department decided that temperature data is no longer relevant when it's raining or snowing? Of all the stupid, this one takes the grand prize.
