I've been jumping on the last few RCs, but I'm reluctant about this one. Gonna keep an eye on this thread and and eye out for bugs. Lots of big API changes here.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems there's not a different build number or any other differentiator for EU region? So it does seem we all got the same code.

I just updated to 17.4 RC (I haven’t been on any of the other betas)

one thing I’ve noticed: using the trackpad on my iPad Magic Keyboard, I’m finding that a LOT of the time, when I click on a link, nothing happens. I try multiple times, it keeps failing, but then if I touch the same spot on the screen with my finger, it works.

I’ve tried disconnecting the iPad from the keyboard/re-attaching. that may help temporarily, but the problem comes back.

is anyone else noticing this? very frustrating!

I understand the new flash screen (the screen with "hello" in various languages after one installs an iOS update) is supposed to show one's Apple ID photo (see below).

I installed the iOS Public Beta before this one, and now this one, and I'm still not being shown this new splash screen.

Am I the only one being denied this feature?

Any help would be welcome.

Perfect! I was just wishing I could use my spare Apple Cash on a small purchase. This website still won’t accept Apple Pay.

To anyone with Apple Watch that's still on WatchOS 9 - this update forces you to update your watch to OS10.
I stopped getting notifications and Watch app on my iPhone says I have to update my Watch to use it.
This is truly disgusting behaviour from Apple. How's that my watch used to work perfectly fine on 17.3.1 and suddenly it can't even receive a simple notification?
I don't know if it's because a newer version available for your watch, but I just tried this with my now ancient Apple Watch 2 running watchOS 6.3 and notifications are working absolutely fine paired to my iPhone 14 Pro running the iOS 17.4 RC. Not a whole lot else does as most of the apps I use on my watch (I also have a watch 7) have stopped supporting watchOS 6, but notifications are coming through no problem.

Yes I’m having the same problem. I would say it started maybe on Beta 2. It’s especially frustrating in the YouTube App where I can’t click any of the on-screen buttons without first tapping on them with my finger.

At least for me, it’s like you need to first touch the screen before the trackpad starts being able to click things. However it’s not everywhere and every time. Just most noticeable in the YouTube app.

my problems were in Safari, mostly (also confirmed in Chrome, so I guess Webkit). it was happening so much last night that I planned to downgrade back to 17.3 this morning.

but now that I’m using the iPad today, links in Safari seem to be working fine. now I don’t know if I should downgrade, or stick with 17.4. will the problem come back?

Hello, I know it's too early to tell, but, any improvements in battery? They said 17.4 is going to measure battery life in a new way. Anyone noticed condition battery percentage is higher than before 17.4 RC?

Thanks.

well, things got bad again tonight (Safari links can’t be clicked with trackpad on Magic Keyboard on 17.4 - I need to use my finger)

I ended up downgrading back to 17.3 (which wasn’t straightforward, since a backup made with 17.4 can’t be used to restore 17.3)

I’ll hold off for a “.1” or “.2” release before trying 17.4 again. I really hope they fix the issue.

Apple today seeded release candidates of upcoming iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 to developers for testing purposes, with the updates coming one week after Apple seeded the fourth betas. The RCs are the final versions of the software that will be released to the public next week so long as no bugs are found during this final testing process.

Registered developers are able to opt into the betas by opening up the Settings app, going to the Software Update section, tapping on the "Beta Updates" option, and toggling on the iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 Developer Beta. A free or paid Apple ID associated with a developer account is required to download and install the beta.

iOS 17.4 introduces sweeping changes to the way the App Store and apps operate in the European Union, paving the way for alternative app marketplaces, alternative payment systems, third-party browser engine support, and NFC access for banks and third-party payment providers. These features are limited to the EU, and won't be available in other countries.

There are, however, changes to gaming apps, and with the launch of iOS 17.4, Apple will be allowing cloud gaming apps like Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce NOW. Mini games, chatbots, and plug-ins are also now able to use the in-app purchase system. Along with these updates, iOS 17.4 adds new emoji characters, transcripts for podcasts in the Podcasts app, support for using SharePlay with the HomePod, Stopwatch Live Activities, and more. Apple's release notes for the update are below.Full details on everything new in iOS 17.4 can be found in our iOS 17.4 features guide.

Reading Macrumours is like being stranded on an island called the USA. Never a peep about exactly what's happening with Apple products in the EU (a bigger population than the US.) Most of the stories here made it look like Apple were changing the iPhone to USB-C because it was time rather than the real reason: an EU mandate. Now come new software features that only apply to the EU and no analysis of these changes even though all these mandates are being imposed on Apple are about protecting EU consumers. It seems like complicity.

Because the folks that make the site probably live in the US. You identified a need. Make a EU version of the site and profit!
