The Public Buta came a little later than normal. It's updating to the same build number. So not much new to expect. Maybe some tiny fix.

I noticed that my 17 pro max started ignoring Siri when connected to CarPlay after the first 26.5. Hoping this addresses that.

New revision means there’s no new bugs fixed and all the bug fixes listed in the previous release would apply as is.

A revised build is released if they find something that was already part of that build but was unintentionally broken.
That’s a fair assumption that proves the point. If Apple would just communicate a bit, you wouldn’t have to assume.

Apple today seeded revised first betas of upcoming iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 updates to developers for testing purposes, with the software coming four days after Apple seeded the initial betas.

Registered developers can download the betas from the Settings app on the iPhone or iPad by going to the General section and selecting Software Update. It's not clear why Apple has seeded new beta updates, but there may be a bug fix that couldn't wait for the second beta.

iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 do not include new Siri capabilities, suggesting any Siri updates are being held until iOS 27. The Maps app has a Suggested Places feature for recommending locations to visit nearby based on trends and recent searches, plus Apple is laying the groundwork for ads.

Apple is again testing end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for RCS messages between iPhone and Android users. Apple tested the feature in iOS 26.4, but removed it before the update launched.

In the European Union, Apple is testing proximity pairing, notification forwarding, and Live Activities for third-party wearables like earbuds and smartwatches.

More detail on what's new in iOS 26.5 can be found in our beta 1 features guide.

It does suck that Siri 2.0 hasn’t been added to this beta cycle and it’s ironic that 26.4 was meant to be the boring update and 26.5 was meant to be the exciting even though 26.5 has less than 26.4.

However, if Apple feel they have no choice but delay the new Siri launch to iOS 27 and keep 26.5 boring, then they might as well focus on stability.

I found 26.5 beta 1 to be really good overall and now being on beta 1 revised it feels a little more responsive.

Maybe Apple have just accepted the situation with Siri for iOS 26 and are now just trying to make iOS 26 as stable and optimised as possible.

Especially if iOS 27 is going to drop support for older models.

They might want to make sure those devices last OS is solid.

Can you please share the statement or documentation from Apple that states this revision was due to a bug?
Dude! Please have a basic understanding of how software development works before making assumptions. This is pretty basic stuff and not Apple specific. Read up on software versioning and you’ll understand.

Where did you hear that about 26.5 being major?

All the big features end at X.4. After that, it’ll be even less, and by X.7, it’s pretty much optimization and bug fixes.

That’s fair and speculation on this very site Mac Rumours.

MR has just been parroting Gurman’s BS lately without doing their own diligence.

All the big features will be part of iOS 27. Being this close to WWDC, it makes sense to bundle it with that than the year old version.

Not true at all. Also, we are almost 20 years into iOS’ existence, why do we keep expecting hundreds upon hundreds of features to be added every single time iOS gets updated? Like holy heck. iOS is mature at this point. Accept it.
Then don’t announce stuff that never comes out. Bye bye Timmy.

Thank you for confirming you have no documentation and are making an assumption. As we can see from the iOS 26.5 release notes, the original version of iOS 26.5 contains multiple New Features, Known Issues, and Resolved Issues (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/ios-ipados-release-notes/ios-ipados-26_5-release-notes).

If Apple could let go of their “secrecy above all else” approach, they could share the reason for the revised iOS 26.5 build. It would be helpful to developers to know what changed.

once again I lost the ability to skip tracks on carplay using my car's steering wheel controls. It happens every other version of the OS 🙁
