Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming tvOS 11.2 update to its public beta testing group, one week after seeding the first public beta and one day after seeding the second tvOS 11.2 update to developers. tvOS 11.2 comes a week after the release of tvOS 11.1, the first update to tvOS 11.

The tvOS 11.2 public beta can be obtained by going to the Settings app on the Apple TV and navigating to the Software Updates section under "System." "Get Public Beta Updates" will need to be toggled on, and once it is, the Apple TV will download the beta software.

According to Apple's release notes, the tvOS 11.2 update enables a new AVDisplayManager feature for developers, designed to allow the device to automatically switch video display modes to match the native frame rate and dynamic range of video content.

The update includes support for switching the Apple TV 4K display output to SDR for apps that are GPU-bound when running in HDR and it re-introduces the Unwatched category in Home Sharing for Movies, TV Shows, and Home Videos.

Apple says tvOS 11.2 also adds new features, bug fixes, and security improvements to the tvOS operating system.

Is this proceeding faster than usual? It seems like they're pushing toward a deadline more quickly than usual. Could be wishful thinking that they're trying to roll it out before Thanksgiving, and maybe address an issue holding up the Amazon App.? Thanksgiving is prime binge watching time ...

"prime binge watching time" I like that.

More likely their deadline is Back Friday and the start of holiday shopping. I would think they would want to get some positive press about the Apple TV right around then. Black Friday is probably the biggest TV shopping event of the year.

Make my Apple TV 4K HDMI DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 / 7.1 Out work correctly, and stop sending everything out ordinary 2-Channel Stereo to the Digital Receiver.

Apple has nothing to do with putting this app on this box via an update. Once Amazon gets it to Apple, it can happen right away. All of this is in Amazon's court...

... except the part where Apple promoted their device during it's launch as having the much sought after app "later this year". If Amazon fails to deliver, Apple will have to deal with the customers they defrauded into buying a device with Apple's assurances the technology would be available. Whether this is entirely Amazon's fault or not (which you don't know), there's definitely gonna be a "court" involved if Apple doesn't deliver by January 1 ...

ok buddy, go ahead and jump in line for a class action suit.

If the ONLY reason people purchased an AppleTV 4K is for the Amazon app, there are quite a few issues with them that probably need to be hashed out.

True for the amazon app but there might be something they need to do for amazon. Airplay 2 though.

So no auto switching on the Apple TV4..? they just need to auto switch between 50 and 60hz and that would help a lot, (in Europe) Many people have tvs the can handle 24p from 60hz so that would be a good first step.

But that seems impossible to fix..

Do you have it turned on? cus it defaults to PCM
Annnnnd yes, I do. No switching either in Best Surround.. or Dolby 5.1 settings. Just sits there outputting Stereo to the Receiver, only. Other input-devices wake up the Dolby Digital surround-sound circuit immediately. ONLY Apple TV 4K does not... on any of the apps which has Surround content.

same here
Same here as well. Always fails to update on the Install screen, with no resetting the box helping things.
