I wonder how iPad OS behaves.
My son has an Ipad Air M1 and uses external monitor for school work.

Would anyone recommend to stay away from it due to some big issues?

He could really use the external display for his studies
I’ve been running the public betas on my 11” iPad Pro. For me, it is a game changer. I am on the public betas, so 16.2 b1 for another day or two. It is much more stable than the releases before they pulled external display support in the 16.1 cycle, but that isn’t saying much. It is still a beta.

For me, I am OK with how stable it is. Battery life seems reasonable and the OS is pretty much as stable as 16.1 for me when not using an external display. When using an external display, though, it definitely is glitchy. The mouse can behave unpredictably, the window manager just crashes sometimes, on-screen keyboard is glitchy, cursor placement has been odd in some apps, that sort of thing.

I have an Air at work that I will move to 16.2 B2 when I’ve tested it at home for a couple of days. It is getting closer to a stable release.

But overall, there‘s a reason these are still in beta. I haven’t seen software this rough out of Apple in at least a decade. I like it. They should do this more often and trust their users!

It is still a bummer that I cannot select the iPad speakers when connected to a monitor. I can only select AirPlay speakers. That is really annoying.

Much appreciated 🙏
I think we will hold back then until it’s more stable or until the official release.

This is an interesting one…wonder why that is? So, if you don’t have wireless headphones, (or speakers on the monitor), no audio?

I would have thought the internal display speakers would be default then, If an external display is connected via USB-C?
That’s what I would have thought as well. What (iPadOS process-wise) would prevent the internal speakers from being selected?

Exactly, I am using it right now. This is how it‘s looks. On the Airplay icon I can only select my AppleTV and Sonos speakers, not the iPad speakers itself.

DISABLES SMS to ANDROID PHONES. AVOID! Bug report filed. I'm sure they'll fix it, but this is worse than disabling photo downloads from iPhones in IOS 16! WTF APPLE! Get your S together! This is beyond shoddy. And I filed this bug report on 2 different iPhones too, same problem. So be advised. It's really that bad.

Is there any more context or information re this? I was about to install this today, but I haven't read any of these issues you're saying.
