Apple today seeded the second betas of upcoming iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 updates to developers for testing purposes, with the software coming two weeks after Apple released updated first betas.

Registered developers can download the betas from the Settings app on the iPhone or iPad by going to the General section and selecting Software Update.

iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 do not include new Siri capabilities, suggesting any Siri updates are being held until iOS 27. The Maps app has a Suggested Places feature for recommending locations to visit nearby based on trends and recent searches, plus Apple is laying the groundwork for ads in the Apple Maps app.

Apple is continuing to test end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for RCS messages between iPhone and Android users. Apple included the feature in the iOS 26.4 beta, but removed it before the update launched to the public.

In the European Union, Apple is testing proximity pairing, notification forwarding, and Live Activities for third-party wearables like earbuds and smartwatches. The functionality will allow third-party wearables to have many of the same features as the Apple Watch and AirPods.

More detail on what's new in iOS 26.5 can be found in our iOS 26.5 beta features guide.

2 years of delays of a new Siri… and people says “x company copied Apple…” we have no reason to think that new Siri will be useful as promised. Zero trust. Even the keyboard lag big in iOS 26 took forever to be kind of fixed (still bad).
The ONLY thing you can really count on is every AI company making sure their service is available on Apple devices.

Yeap, iPhone 16 still can’t unleash full “AI” power regarding to Apple ADS …

All right was just taking a snapping a few quick pictures. And I noticed that for some reason, the pictures look more vibrant than normal. By the way, I have not changed any settings and I have them set to remain as they were but there’s definitely a difference.

The carrot to buy an iPhone 16 series was AI was about ready so get the latest. That lie passed and we got another similar happening for the iPhone 17 series. Now, once again the talk is that iPhone 18 series will get AI.

It will be very interesting to see if the 18 series also has 16GB of ram. The 16 had 8, the 17 has 12. All the laptops except the first generation Neo now have 16GB of memory.

The current Neo first generation build out is constrained by the inventory of binned "A" 18 chips remaining and AI is STILL not out yet.

So the second generation Neo might have binned A19 chips with 12GB of memory. Wonder if the third generation might get chips with 16GB of memory and then AI might be released........

In the FIW department. The Neo does NOT like beta software. Had to reset to the fully released version to get it operating correctly with help from Apple Care.

I feel like with every ear release of software from Apple. They’re trying to drive their customers away by inserting ads into every damn thing they make. We already pay way too much for your products. Why do we want ads in them?
I think Apple did its homework and the math and are prepared to lose a certain number of customers over this.

I personally am not happy however if the ads don’t interfere with the function I’ll ignore them.

I have it on my iPad, just did a search for Hamburgers and I’m assuming the list I see are those that would have been expected to have paid to have their ads displayed there. If I do a search for “Jack In the Box” I only see a list of those in the area. If this is what it is, I can’t imagine having an issue with it.

I’m firmly convinced that Apple’s always driving some person that have previously purchased their products away. And, as long as they can obtain new customers at a 1 for 1 or better rate, that’s success. So, while the number of folks you’ll see posting that don’t like Apple will continue to increase (All disliking Apple for a various things they stopped doing or started doing), they’ll retain a healthy revenue flow as they continue to connect with those new customers.

New customers, a large number of which will not like something Apple’s doing or not doing in 10-15 years.

EDIT: I noticed that some of the ratings are Yelp and some are not. SO, if this helps get Yelp out of the cycle, all in favor of that. 🙂 I don’t mind leaving an anonymous thumbs up or down via Apple Maps, I don’t want to have to log in to Yelp to do the same.

EDIT-AGAIN: The more I look at this as “a Yelp that doesn’t require logging in with a company that’ll share your data”, there’s more about it that I’m in favor of. You’ll know if it’s effective or not if Yelp ends up suing Apple for being “anticompetitive”!

Keep in mind that the bug for blocking numbers in imessage, or the phone app, and for some through settings still exists.

For any iPhone 15 Pro Max owners out there running the developer beta of iOS 26.5 make sure you update from within the iPhone don't download the IPSW because it's broken, this is my second time restoring my phone in the past couple of hours because I kept getting an unknown error, forcing me to downgrade to iOS 26.4.1 and then updating to iOS 26.5 beta 2 on my iPhone, the build is ending with 5054d on Apple Developer portal, but when using the the update mechanism from within iPhone the build number is 5054h (Not enrolled in public beta by the way) so there's a major discrepancy going on here that they need to address STAT.

Guys , what if Apple like: “You know guys, **** AI” we have our own road . How sick it might be…

Let’s thing for a minute: ppl without Apple have ability to use AI, ohhh yes we will implement in moooore secure way … sure sure …

I don't normally run betas, but ads in Maps is too hot to pass up. 😍
I get the irony, but I am staying at 26.4.1 and I hope to avoid the damn ads… at least until I have to update to iOS 27.

What will be next? Having to pay a subscription to remove the ads from our iPhone, iPad and Mac?

I mean… people WITH Apple have access to the same tools. From the same companies.
