Apple today seeded the second beta of iOS 8.4.1 to registered developers for testing purposes, just over two weeks after releasing the first iOS 8.4.1 beta and a month after launching iOS 8.4 with the new Apple Music service.

Today's beta, build 12H318, is available via an over the air update and it can also be downloaded from the Apple Developer Center.

No outward facing changes were discovered in the first iOS 8.4.1 beta, and it's a .1 update, so it's likely that it includes only minor bug fixes, security enhancements, and performance improvements designed to prepare the operating system for its upcoming retirement.

iOS 8.4.1 may be one of the last updates to iOS 8 as Apple is working on its successor, iOS 9. iOS 9 builds on many of the features introduced with iOS 8 and adds new content and underlying performance improvements. iOS 9 is currently in beta testing and will be released in the fall.

I hope this version comes out to general public soon, and it smoothens out the Touch ID lag that am facing.
Had to restore twice already! :( and that's not common for me to do on iPhone.

I wonder if they've replaced discoveryd with mDNSresponder in this version?
Not likely something like that would happen in a x.x.x bug fix type of a release. The change is there in iOS 9 betas so likely coming with iOS 9 when it's released.

I wish I never downloaded 8.4 to begin with. The music app is way to complicated. Thank goodness I have an old ipod 4 on IOS 7 to play and navigate my music...

So many bugs in the new Music app. Hopefully 8.4.1 will fix the scenario where I make a Playlist "Available Offline" but the songs in that place do not show with the "available offline" icon. Right now the music app will let me download the same song more than once. When I check "Manage Storage" I can see the song is there multiple times. They really need better awareness of when a song is already available offline.

The only way it works right now is if you specifically make a song available offline.

Surprised that Apple is still working on iOS8 and not allocating all the resources for iOS9. Maybe this does show that Apple is not happy with 8.4 and still wants to put effort towards iOS 8.
All resources don't have to (and generally don't) work on the same thing.

There is no point on working on a system that doesnt need to be updated and is going to be obsolete, if Apple was happy with 8.4 then they would leave it alone. Unless they can port over the improvements implemented in the current update to the new OS.

At this point in time, they should just focus on iOS 9 instead. By the time the final 8.4.1 is released, it will be close to iOS 9 release.

Of course there is a point if there are some potential issues here and most people are still in that system and will be on it for some time still even after a new one comes out. There can very well be some security issues being addressed, some stability issues, some issues related to usability perhaps, some issues related to payments or services perhaps--plenty of fairly valid possibilities.

And what makes it seem that they aren't focusing on iOS 9? Because there is still a small team still supporting iOS 8, which is still the currently available and supported version? They aren't taking anything away from the team that's already working on iOS 9 and has been for a long time.
