Apple today provided public beta testers with a second beta of macOS Tahoe, the newest version of macOS that's set to launch this fall. The second beta comes two weeks after the first macOS Tahoe public beta, and it corresponds to the fifth developer beta.

Public beta testers can download macOS Tahoe from the Software Update section of the Settings app after signing up for the betas on Apple's website.

macOS Tahoe has the same Liquid Glass design as iOS 26, and it extends to app icons, folders, the Dock, in-app navigation, menus, the Control Center, and the Menu Bar. The Control Center and the Menu Bar are customizable, and you're also able to customize folders, app icons, and widgets.

Safari has an updated tab design and a redesigned sidebar, and Apple has brought the Phone app to the Mac for making phone calls through Wi-Fi Calling. The Phone app supports the new Call Screening and Hold Assist features.

Spotlight has been overhauled with improved search and the ability to execute hundreds of actions without opening up an app. There's a new Games app with a Game Overlay feature, and developers have access to Metal 4.

More on what's new can be found in our macOS Tahoe roundup.

I see it. East Coast... but I keep getting "Failed to personalize" and then it stops.

Installed fine here, version 26.0 Beta (25A5327h). With an SSD icon now, instead of the old HD icon.

Using the keyboard shortcut for Spotlight causes Mail to instantly crash. Anyone else seeing this? I reported it to Apple.

Version 26.0 Beta (25A5327h)
i find this curious as there is a newer build number 25A5327m also available now but apparently only available to public beta testers as reported on x:
i get developer betas so want to avoid this one

i think it is curious that some public beta testers are getting build 25A5327h and others 25A5327m, yet developers are stuck on 25A5327h

The difference between the twos should not be enough to force beta users to upgrade.

Can anyone confirm AFP client protocol functionality status in the new build? I have a couple of clients who are still using this over SMB and I know its already depreciated and apple bound to pull the plug any moment. Just hoping I have at least one more release till they do.

I just sent off feedback telling them they need to make Liquid Glass optional. Everyone who dislikes this UI needs to make their thoughts known. I mean... the contrasts and shadows here are just a UI/UX mess:

Then, I look at Messages behind my Mail window, and it looks like I don't have my glasses on:

They need to make Liquid Glass an option. Reducing transparency in the accessibility options isn't enough (and made the whole thing worse in some ways). If you're looking for a clean, clear UI, macOS 26 isn't going to be it unless they make some serious changes and soon. I've been debating leaving macOS for a few years... this might be the final straw for me.
