Disk Utility, Save As..., window zoom, advanced color calibration, Finder column view scrolling, Mail.app searching, rootless mode??? really?? and so on.
Everything has a work around with the Option key or a command in the Terminal. But why should it?
Rootless came with El Capitan not earlier. I agree with you that Disk Utility is a little too pretty but honestly DU didn't even work well in Snow Leopard. The other features we still have.

As in...
  • Files being fully coloured instead of those nearly invisible coloured dot tags?
  • The ability to have 3rd party developers give us proper cut/paste commands in Finder with TotalFinder or XtraFinder?
I'd actually pay to have that functionality... and pay even more to turn off the green button fullscreen CRAP (I work on a 24" monitor, I dont need full screen).

Maybe give a try to Moom (https://manytricks.com/moom) to tweak the green button.

1. Tags are much better than the old coloured folders IMO. Have you tried to change the window item arrangement to Tags - It's brilliant and even easier to see your files/folders in groups than the old way.
2. Third party devs fiddling with the Finder, ummm Apple says no, that's a big security risk - sorry.
3. Hold the Opt Key while you hover over the green dot to have it work like it did before (you don't need to pay me though) :)

Hope this helps...

OS X Snow Leopard would probably not run on your 2013 rMBP. Plus even if it did you would probably want 10.6.8 since previous versions all had certain major bugs (which MR users have forgotten about). In the end, it's not worth running 6+ year old OS because of compatibility, security, and performance issues.

Shoot that was a big typo. I meant 10.11.4/5. Long day!

And in how far would that be exclusive to having fully coloured folders?

Then there's a even better solution: Apple adds these features themselves.

An unnecessary extra step. A toggle in the preferences between the two behaviours would be a better solution.

I guess it would not be exclusive. I was just pointing out that there is another way in case the original poster was not aware of that feature. At this point, it doesn't look like Apple are going to go back on this one but maybe they will - I don't mind either way. :)

Hmmm, well the ability to Cut/Paste in the Finder is actually already there. However, it does use the old Opt/Alt key again. Select the item and Copy then go to the location you want to move the file(s) then Opt/Alt Paste [Menu shows 'Move Item Here'] I guess Apple think most people just drag and drop.

Yes, I think that would be a good idea, perhaps even make it so that if you Opt/Alt click on the green dot, it remembers your choice and always does that until you Opt/Alt click again? Once again, I was just pointing out that the option was available already to help the original poster.

This is one PB I am going to miss. 10.11.6PB1 screwed up my app store, iBooks and Safari (crashed every time), so I had to use the Technology Preview Version of Safari the whole time. I have ended up reinstalling 10.11.5.

Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming OS X 10.11.6 beta to public beta testers, one day after releasing the second OS X 10.11.6 beta to developers. OS X 10.11.6 has been in testing since May 23 and the second beta comes three weeks after the public release of OS X 10.11.5, the fifth update to the El Capitan operating system.

Beta 2 is available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store for those who are enrolled in Apple's beta testing program. Mac users who want to join the program can sign up on Apple's beta testing website.

OS X 10.11.6, like most of the previous updates to the El Capitan operating system, appears to be minor in scale, focusing mainly on bug fixes and security improvements that are not immediately obvious to testers and developers. No outward-facing changes or major bug fixes were discovered in the first two developer betas.

Apple must redesign Finder and the Dock in OS X and also bring back the login UI like in OS X 10.9 (Mavericks). Also new buttons on the Windows (close, minimize, zoom...)
