Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming macOS Monterey 12.1 update to public beta testers, two weeks after seeding the first beta and a day after providing the second beta to developers.

Public beta testers can download the macOS 12 Monterey update from the Software Update section of the System Preferences app after installing the proper profile from Apple's beta software website.

macOS Monterey 12.1 introduces support for SharePlay, the feature that allows FaceTime users to do more with their friends and family members. With SharePlay, ‌FaceTime‌ users can listen to music, watch TV, watch movies, and even share their screen with the people they're chatting with.

SharePlay is already active in iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, and tvOS 15.1, and the macOS Monterey 12.1 update brings Macs in line with the Apple TV and iOS devices.

I've been sticking to Big Sur because I heard that there were occasionally problems with USB hubs/drives. Hopefully some of these issues are fixed in this next release. I live or die by my USB peripherals, so I really can't take the chance, even if it's small.

Does anyone know the megapixels of the front facing Camera on MacBook Pro 2021 16”?

Not 1080p, but the Megapixels.

5 MP?

Anyone using the new MBPs with menu bar option visible on full screen? Does the trackpad gesture works? (Like the moving between full screen windows, the 3 fingers up, etc)

They better fix bluetooth, usb-c and screensaver issues first. no-one cares about SharePlay.

you might have more luck looking up the tech specs on apple's website or ask in the MBP forum ...

“Camera
1080p FaceTime HD camera
Advanced image signal processor with computational video”

That’s not a real thing. There is no such thing as a 1080p camera.

The closest is 2.3MP which is 1920x1200. But that’s not 1920x1080.

For example, the 12MP camera in iPhone 12 is also capable of 1080p.

Pray there is big bug fixes, e.g. fix memory leak, no more lost files, etc.

Monterey should not have shipped in its current state.
Memory leak is fixed for me, also Bluetooth mouse and keyboard has a big improvement.

Seeds for beta and released for public builds

Ok, but why? Are they using bittorrent for the betas but not for the public builds? Does “seed” just sound cooler? Are public betas not also “released”? Not meaning to say this convention is wrong, I’m just curious.

It’s just a way to distinguish pre-release and release software. Seed can have different definition but in this context is to make pre-release software available for testing and development and Apple called this the Seed Program.

I think I brought this up in another thread.

OpenGL ES 2.0 is only capable of 2048x2048 textures. (2007)

If the Mac webcam is still using OpenGL ES 2.0, instead of Apple’s Metal, the max video resolution you’re going to get is 1920x1080…

“1080p camera”
