Looks like there's more activity with this beta than the previous one. Do you think 12.3 will go final in Feb? If so, I'm going to skip 12.2

No, this beta cycle is similar to the Big Sur 3rd one where the beta 1 and beta 2 were close to same dates, that ended toward end of April when Spring 2021 event occurred (M1 iMac, M1 iPad Pro). That March 8 date is IPad Air, iPhoneSE announcements. This beta features the delayed universal control finally being included. :)

Thanks. I was hoping they would squeeze one in between now and the the next one that which would sync with the Spring announcement

Does it fix the issue where Thunderbolt displays (LG 34WK95U-W in particular) no longer work with my M1 MacBook Pro?! It updated the firmware so it's broken even after booting back into 12.2. I unfortunately do not have another M1 to roll back the firmware (down from 7459.100.487.115.1 in the first 12.3 beta).
I am not sure that the OS is at fault here. I have the same display and it has been working fine through al betas.

One thing that irritates me on my 24" iMac M1 (maxed out):
Connecting a 4K TV via TB 4->HDMI cable as 2nd display.

It does work, but if I want "extended display", 4K @ 60fps, I need to remove and re-insert the cable at the back of the iMac after a reboot.

If I don't do that, it always defaults to screen-mirror, 4K @ 30fps. I cannot adjust the settings in System Prefs. Only removing and re-inserting the TB 4 (USB C) cable gives the correct options.

Hi all!
Starting from an external Nvme SSD is finally fixed with the latest beta?
Boot time with my MacBook Air M1 is very long - about 3 minutes. (latest official Monterey release)

Thank you!

Every time you encounter a new problem in macOS, just remember this: most of Apple's top programmers are not on the macOS team but iOS.

This is why:
  • Any macOS-only feature will tend to have more bugs, e.g., Time Machine.
  • Any common application, e.g., Safari, will have its UI prioritized for iOS.
This is also why:
  • You are recommended not to upgrade to the latest macOS until the .5 release, i.e., in May or June, if you rely on your computer for work (because it takes less talented programmers longer to fix problems).
  • You should stop wishing that Apple extends macOS's release cycle from 1 year to 1.5 or even 2 years just to iron out bugs (because macOS has to have feature parity with iOS/iPadOS, e.g., Universal Control).
macOS has a very strong foundation. Most of its major bugs can be easily fixed. There is little need to rewrite the operating system as some have suggested on this forum. The only problem is Apple doesn't want to dedicate enough resources to make it more or less bug-free right out of the gate. It's intentional.

The words on the street is Apple has become very cost-conscious when it comes to retaining programming talents and they're trying to keep just enough of them in the macOS division to keep macOS usable, but only after several releases.

One of the major problems with this approach is that macOS has become progressively less secure. It only gives the illusion of being secure on the mere fact that it isn't a platform most hackers are interested in.

Is this a fact? If yes, please provide evidence! If not then this is your opinion and thus could be considered trolling!

Nice spin, but it’s very different between testing MacOS compared to iOS and iPadOS especially multitasking. :p
