Would anyone be willing to run an Apple Diagnostics since updating to RC2? Coincidentally I’m getting VDC001 “There may be an issue with the SD card reader.” But the thing is, I’ve never not once used a SD card for my MBP and don’t intend too either.

Just want to know if software bug or genuine start of logic board funeral..

It's reporting it also on mine, so that would be not real. 16" M1 Max 2021 MBP.

Wow. Nice. RC3 anyone?
RC1 install on my M1 Max MBP 16” stopped half way through and powered off the laptop.
So yeah, that’s why we got RC2.

Recovery mode is now broken for me. *From the recovery mode screen*, it says that security settings can't be changed because... it isn't in recovery mode. This is on 16-inch 2023 MBP. Anyone else?

Thanks for confirming, I’ll cancel that Genius Bar 🥸

Others here willing to test?

I did think it was glitched out, as if it was completely dead I’m sure the hardware wouldn’t show in System Information? But it shows all identifiers and revisions as if it’s running normally.

What are we looking for exactly? Happy to help.

I ran the diagnostic test on my 2023 MacBook Pro 16 with RC2 installed and got the same message regarding the SD Card Reader. I checked some of my SD cards and they work fine. Speed test showed no change in performance.

My finding is that when the MacBook Pro is powered up, it does not mount the inserted SD cards nor are they visible in the disk utility. Re-inserting the SD cards mounts them back. This is happening since beta 3 and continues to happen on the RC2

I have to wonder if this is associated with hardware announcements next week?

Also this same RC2 is now PB testers available. Its a full 12.88 GB download now.

Virtually every macos beta release thread has someone at least speculating if not entirely convinced it has something to do with new hardware

One might get the impression that apple introduces new macs several times a month

Not saying it's definitive but possible. ;)
Late April to Mid May is a period where hardware has been updated/introduced before focus changes to WWDC. The RC2 shows AS platform system FW being toggled back to same as B4 not RC.

And I’m not saying you might not be correct

I’m just amused by the phenomenon more generally

And after all it is “mac rumors” :)

This update broke Logitech's Logi Options+ software for me, pretty much all the MX mouse settings are off.
I tried reinstalling, it can't finish the installation

Dear Apple, how about a built in Window Manager that matches what is available on MS Windows?

If you are feelin' lazy or short on developers, just buy Magnet, Rectangle or something similar and implement it — that alone would be a huge improvement to our favorite OS — MacOS.

Must be something nasty in RC1.
Rc1 firmware seems to have a thunderbolt bug. AppleAquantia failed. I’m testing Ventura on an external thunderbolt disk; restarting the system resulted in the thunderbolt bus going down. System stopped booting from my thunderbolt disk.

Somehow I got it back, and the crash log showed a hard kernel panic in the boot routine, and the AppleAquantia kext also caused a failure. I installed rc2 which reverted the system firmware and no thunderbolt bugs anymore. Hmm 🤔 coincidence?

It does make you wonder if they are testing 13.4 with different hardware doesn’t it. There is also the SD card reader blip with diagnostics that is known with M1/M2 based 16” MBPs.
