Apple today seeded the seventh beta of an upcoming tvOS 16 update to developers for testing purposes, with the beta coming one week after Apple seeded the sixth beta of tvOS 16 to developers.

Developers can download the new tvOS 16 beta by downloading a profile onto the Apple TV using Xcode.

tvOS 16 enables cross-device connectivity, a feature that allows developers to integrate Apple TV apps with iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch apps to unlock new experiences on the TV. Apple has also improved how multiple user profiles work in tvOS 16 by adding a shared keychain, so users won't need to sign in and choose their profile when launching an Apple TV app.

Game controller support has been expanded to the Nintendo Joy-Cons and Pro Controller, and HDR10+ support is available in the tvOS 16 Apple TV app. With tvOS 16, the Apple TV will support Matter, an upcoming standard that will improve interoperability between smart home accessories from different companies.

Apple has also seeded a new HomePod 16 software update for beta testers.

maybe I don't use it as much as others, but I can't ever see any difference between beta versions

apple tv no matter if i have arc set on my sound bar keeps changing my sound bar to hdmi and not arc making it no audio; to make it work when wanting to use my apple tv is to turn the tv on first and wait for sound bar to indicate arc input then switch to apple tv ; no other device does this but apple tv

I haven't noticed this happening on my setup (LG C1 with Samsung Q800A soundbar paired with a set of SWA 9500s for the rear speakers). What is the issue exactly?
It only happens to me on Netflix but if I watch a show with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack, I will get occasional 4-7 second audio dropouts where there is no sound at all. I have to rewind 10 seconds and it will replay thta portion of the show/movie with the sound. It can happen at any time and it can be isolated or in bunches. It only began happening after updating to tvOS 15.4 (or an update around there). You can solve the issue by turning Atmos off in the ATV settings, by using Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet (yes, it only seems to happen with an Ethernet connection) or by using your TVs internal app. Some have reported that tvOS 16 beta has solved the issue.

Ah I see. I just started using Netflix a few days ago and haven't noticed any issues yet, but I'll keep an ear out for it. Thanks for letting me know!

How do you do this - I have the beta profile installed but can’t download the latest beta.
settings -> system -> software updates -> get beta updates (notice it is off, should be on) so click on it to change that and agree to legal and it will prompt you to update to latest update.

I don’t have the “get beta updates” section, hence the original question as when I check for updates it says I’m up to date but it’s an old version number.

Your welcome. You'll know if it happens. And as I said, it doesn't happen if your ATV is connected via Wi-Fi or if you have Atmos turned off in the sound settings of the ATV. Strange.

I think the problem may be that I am on the Public Beta and the build no. is 20J5366a and the “Get Beta Updates” button is not visible. Main problem is that audio out of the aTV 4K under that build is 2.0
and not 5.1 on my Heos 5.1 system.

Any ideas when the next Public Beta will be released?

I have been plagued by this issue, both wifi and lan, and all streaming including ATV+ (but Netflix seemed like the most prevalent). Been contributing to another thread on the issue for nearly a year and have had several replacement devices. Ruled out every single piece of hardware in the chain and seems to be squarely be fault on the gen 2 4K units and/with tvOS 15. Anyway, I have yet to experience the issue on the 16 beta. Fingers crossed!

I’ve wondered if doing a complete reset back to the factory out of box condition would help if the reset brings the OS back to what it shipped with. I don’t know if it would reset to that version of the OS, but I do know all this started after a few updates from out of the box. If tvOS 16 doesn’t fix this, I may try that option.
