Apple today seeded the third beta of an upcoming iOS 12.1.1 update to developers, a little over one week after seeding the second beta and two weeks after the release of iOS 12.1, a major update that brought multiple new features to iOS.

Registered developers can download the new iOS 12.1.1 beta from Apple's Developer Center or over-the-air once the proper configuration profile has been installed from the Developer Center.

The iOS 12.1.1 update reintroduces the feature that lets you take a Live Photo while on a FaceTime call, and it brings improvements for the FaceTime user interface.

Following the update, FaceTime features a reworked bottom bar that includes quick access buttons for muting a call and flipping the camera. Sliding up on the bottom bar brings up additional options with conversation participants. Previously, FaceTime users were required to tap on three dots to access a secondary menu with these features.

For the iPhone XR, iOS 12.1.1 allows Haptic Touch to be used to expand notifications on the Lock screen. iPhone XR owners are able to long press on a notification banner to see additional content, much as other iPhone owners can 3D Touch on a notification to expand it.

iOS 12.1.1 also adds a new option in Apple News to hide the side bar on the iPad when using the app in landscape mode, it introduces an option to turn off the physical SIM in the device in favor of the eSIM, and it tweaks the icon of the Apple Watch app so it looks like the Apple Watch Series 4.

Update: Apple has made a new public beta of iOS 12.1.1 available to its public beta testers.

Anyone know if reception issues (call quality, Apple Music stream efficacy, etc.) could be remedied by a software update?
I've had nearly every iPhone since the '07 launch, and my XS experience has been pretty bad. From the moment I sent my X back for my XS (iUP), I have had nothing but connection issues. As an example, Siri thinks I'm not connected to the network when asking to play something from Apple Music - even tho I am full bars on both wi-fi and cellular (AT&T).

Frustrating and unusual, for my Apple experience.

    Hmmm

Hope my Swiss provider will be in the esim list...

I have already esim installed and working, except for personal Hotspot...

Why the F? Apple has to control everything and slow down everything??

After googeling => activating the "enable data roaming" and Voilà... You can enable personal hot-spot again... ????

    Should be
The iOS 12 broke it because that stuff worked fine on iPhone 7+ prior to iOS 12....

Probably a dumb question but can you still use the keyboard as a trackpad on the new iPhones (XR and XS)?

Here's hoping. My current XS performance is annoying.

Dumb question, but I haven’t been following this too closely. From the article it seems they reverted the “flip camera” button to be more accessible during a FaceTime call, rather than hidden in another menu. Is that true?

You can as usual on the XS using 3D Touch. On the XR you can use longpress on the spacebar for that, just like you actually can on other non-3D Touch devices as of iOS 12.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that they've completely fixed BeautyGate; selfies are sharper than ever… :(

Public beta is out now. You may need to try a few times for it to show up.
