I thought it did?
Oh, interesting. Yeah I just wasn't sure about it.

So, couldn't someone with that beta setup on both devices theoretically test for us how big the latency with Airplay 2 (in its current beta state) is? It might of course still change till release but that could give us a good idea on how much of an improvement we're looking at here.

AirPlay 2 is mainly about multi-room support. As a side effect, the latency will change. Currently, all AirPlay devices operate at a fixed latency of 2 seconds. With AirPlay 2, the latency is negotiated with the participating devices, and if they can manage a lower latency, they'll take advantage of that.

There'll definitely still be a delay. Wireless doesn't come without latency.

It already should support that on both iOS and macOS. What video player are you using?

When I use the homepod on my mac, no matter what app I'm using or what website I'm on, audio / video is never synced up. Thats the problem I'm referring to. From what I've read online it seems everyone has this problem.

If I watch a video on my phone through homepod, the audio / video will be synced. But on my mac audio/video is never synced while using homepod, which makes it really frustrating. I never really minded this cause I assumed airplay 2 would fix it, or at least the new software in the fall would. But people are now making me second guess that.

Someone please tell me this will be fixed! I get that it works through wifi, not bluetooth, but literally every other sh**ty speaker I have has NO audio / video sync problems when connected to my mac, kinda insane that a top of the line Apple speaker would have this problem connected to an apple device.

I hope there is a fix for limping fusion drives ... after much trouble recently but with great support from an apple care sr advisor, we were able to get my fusion drive up and running ... but it still has anonomolies ... if i let it sleep overnight, i can't log in and have to switch off and restart ... sometimes can't log out, and have to restart, both using the physical off button.

Where is said forum. I don't see a Display Link forum.

Thanks,

ben

I'm guessing right here.

This was posted yesterday:

Meanwhile, we have been developing a partial workaround solution which would add one extended USB display (up to 1080p) on macOS 10.13.4. We are aiming to release a preview version of this driver in around 7 to 10 days. The precise date depends on how the solution performs under deeper and wider testing, and how long it takes to resolve remaining issues. We expect the driver to enable one extended 1080p screen, and one cloned screen connected to a DisplayLink device. There may be some other functional limitations.
The new alpha driver will be posted online as soon as possible.

So, we'll know more a week or two from now.

Apple as gone so far down the Quality ____ hole. There is no way I'd manage to install 10.13.4 from 10.13.3.... The system MBR still boots the 10.13.3 kernel... LOL! My Linux host surely can do.. hopefully Apple hires a few undergrad students to fix a simple problem!
