Omg fix preferences already. I own a computer not an iPad let me use the full screen and also it’s a total cluster of a mess. Boooooo
Not going to change. It's not broken, so there is nothing to fix. In case you weren't aware, after clicking on System Settings, click on "View" in the menu bar, or just simply use Spotlight. "View" makes it easier for me. Kudos to @Realityck for showing me the way...

I’m just gonna say it, Alan Dye needs to go. The last several years of “design” on macOS have been a disaster.
Apple also needs to bring back Scott Forstall and Bertrand Serlett while they’re at it.

Just because it "works" doesn't mean it isn't a mess and shouldn't ever change.

Yeah. I also use the “View” menu option as I can never find anything quickly using the new Sys Prefs.
I cannot believe Apple changed the Sys Prefs to try make it better, they changed it to make it look more like iOS System Settings.

Next step for macOS 14: change the current “arrow” mouse pointer into the “circle” mouse pointer from iPadOS 😁

macOS Ventura‌ 13.3 adopts the same new emoji characters that are in iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4, including pink heart, light blue heart, left and right hand, moose, black bird, goose, wing, jellyfish, pea pod, finger, and more.
OMG, can't you just update the da*n emoji font? Do we always need a full blown OS update for EMOJIS?!?

The update adds the new HomeKit architecture that was initially removed from iOS 16.2 and its sister updates, and the revised version should have fewer bugs that affect ‌HomeKit‌ setups.
f-e-w-e-r. ok ...

‌macOS Ventura‌ 13.3 will go through multiple rounds of beta testing, with Apple planning to release it in the spring.
Right before macOS 14.x, codename "Superbug", is announced at WWDC? Apple, can you please stop this update hell? Nobody needs it and nobody wants it. Some people excluded, for whom the meaning of life is to wait for new Apple features and install beta versions?

I should clarify; I meant will not change back to the old version of System Preference. My bad for not being more clear. I do agree that the current version can be improved. Time will tell if Apple chooses to do so.

Doesn't look like SMB is fixed
Is it potentially a private relay or another security issue? I found this article

Obscuring up addresses sounds like a problem for smb

You could try turning all extra security off. Of course the servers need to be up to date as well

I will agree to disagree.... Apple tried or is trying to make a preferences window for a mobile/tablet OS fit a desktop.. it's inefficient and messy....Look at network for example why is wifi not in that area, its separate ?

The fact that you can use Siri or spotlight search to immediate open up specific even nestled settings shows the old nestled 20 year old icon view is outdated. Yes since 10.2 thru Monterey it was like that. When I look at how limited the often compared iPadOS settings is and much scrolling involved that aren't even close to behaving in the same manner with usage. Also the view menu gives you 40 categories to start with for finding anything in settings. Any similarity is skin deep between mobile apple devices OS's and MacOS. Want to talk about forced system updates also that MacOS doesn't have. :p

It still shocks me that anybody actually liked the old system preferences. Literally impossible to navigate. I had to search for literally any setting because everything was in a random order. It felt like looking at a box of puzzle pieces. At least I can use my iOS muscle memory now.

Your rational is reminds me of the antenna gate your "holding it wrong" mentality. Yes, I'm well aware of the other ways of getting to certain settings. So you're basically saying they should just remove it because it doesn't work?

Im remembering a day when it was intuitive and made sense. So in my opinion and what seems to be others in this thread it is that its not intuitive and messy.

My first impression was, oh I have to relearn part of the MacOS usage, but upon further comments/observations from others it soon became apparent that they had made it even easier to use as the MacOS grows more sophisticated. Looking back you can see how old the control panels eventually renamed system settings really is. :)

Where as Ventura changed a lot more the settings.

Apple implements that many bugs and forces the users to install updates. Ventura, Exchange/Calendar/Mail Sync broken. Same for 13.1, 13.2, with 13.3 it works somewhat better, so will it be worse with 13.4 again? Will it be better? Will 13.4 add new bugs (certainly it will)?

All I want is a working and stable OS. There is no explanation why features work in Version 12 and stop working in version 13. Apple says it merges codebases of iOS and macOS. But then again, why does the sync work on iOS and fail on macOS?
