Apple today seeded the third beta of an upcoming tvOS 11.3 update to its public beta testing group, one day after providing the third beta to developers and two weeks after releasing the second tvOS 11.3 public beta.

The new tvOS 11.3 public beta can be downloaded by going to the Settings app on the Apple TV and navigating to the Software Updates section under "System." "Get Public Beta Updates" will need to be toggled on, and once it is, the Apple TV will download the beta software.

Earlier versions of tvOS 11.3 introduced support for AirPlay 2, allowing the Apple TV to be added to the Home app as part of a HomeKit setup and enabling multi-room audio across multiple Apple TVs.

In tvOS and iOS 11.3 beta 3, all AirPlay 2 functionality has been removed. It is not yet clear if Apple plans to re-add these features to the beta, so it remains to be seen if AirPlay 2 will be coming in iOS 11.3.

Other new features in tvOS 11.3 include enhancements to Match Content support, automatic frame rate switching on the fourth-generation Apple TV (a feature that was added to Apple TV 4K in a past update), and automatic mode switching for AirPlay video sessions.

Dolby ATMOS for iTunes movies or supported apps? Eh'hem.

VP9 support for YouTube? It’s a license free codec boys. Everyone else has 4K YouTube. It’s embrassing.

If I'm not mistaken, this should also resolve Dolby Vision issues between the Apple TV 4K and Sony televisions (currently, there is a conflict between Dolby Vision versions on the Apple TV 4K and 2017 Sony TVs resulting in the absence of DV on the Sony). Fingers crossed...

Is everyone still having problems in general with the remote? Every update I hope that it will get better but it doesn't seem to change. It disconnects frequently and is often slow to respond.

Apple has always had such a horrible remote.

I never had this problem with the last gen Apple TV but yes my Apple TV 4K remote is unbearably unresponsive. I wonder if we got a defective batch?

Same here. This is just my Apple TV 4K which I got last month. My last gen works just fine.

Does anyone know what “automatic mode switching for AirPlay video sessions“ is?

Hopefully they have fixed theatre so we can all watch our home movies on apple tv again. Its not worked for 6 weeks

No hardware support.

Most likely it changes HDR/refresh rate based on the content playing from AirPlay as well now, and not just the native video player.

Yes it does at least for the 2018 model A1E
