Apple today seeded the golden master (GM) version of tvOS 10 to developers. The golden master represents the final version of tvOS 10 that will be released to the public. Apple has not yet shared when tvOS 10 will officially launch, but iOS 10 and watchOS 3 are coming on September 13 and macOS Sierra is coming on September 20, so either of those dates is a possibility.

tvOS beta software is more difficult to install than iOS or macOS beta software. Installing the golden master version of tvOS 10 requires the Apple TV to be connected to a computer with a USB-C to USB-A cable, with the software downloaded and installed via iTunes or Apple Configurator. Once a beta profile has been installed on the device through iTunes, new beta updates will be available over the air.

tvOS 10 builds on features initially introduced with tvOS last October, bringing expanded Siri capabilities like topic-based search, Live Tune-In for automatically accessing live channels, and options for managing HomeKit accessories.

Single-Sign On allows users to sign in and authenticate cable credentials just once instead of requiring authentication in all cable-supported apps, games are now able to require controllers, and there are new features for Photos and Music.

A dark mode offers a better visual experience for darker rooms, universal apps are automatically downloaded, and there's a new Apple TV remote for iOS devices that mirrors the Siri Remote.

For a full overview of all of the new features in tvOS 10, make sure to check out our tvOS 10 roundup.

Apple still hasn't fixed an annoying issue with playback on tvOS 10. It's still sitting as open in Apple Bug Reporter.
If you are watching something and move your finger left to go back 10 seconds then go right without lifting your finger, it gets "stuck" going in one direction, not following what it is showing with the icons on the screen. Previously this wasn't a problem, but it's made it annoying to scrub back and forth.

I hope this is an improvement over the current tvOS, which is well buggy. Case in point: you get an email saying a new episode of Mr. Robot is available for viewing; you go to the Apple TV and it stubbornly refuses to list the new episode despite best efforts to wander around the media categories; restart the device and, magically, there it is. Or, watch a bunch of episodes then try to watch something completely different and you're faced with a white screen and a wait widget, most easily overcome by backing out and doing a reset.

meanwhile in the UK there is still naff all Apple TV content and Siri is next to useless.

I have just made the break out of the apple ecosystem and purchased a roku.... Much better for us in the UK - am really happy with it.

Apple Music may go next and then hey, do I need an iPhone?

you are losing loyal customers with this Apple TV rubbish..... Apple, wake up!!

It seems like Apple is interested in everything but the Macs. I guess they were serious about that post PC era thing.

I must ask you, how are the current Macs lacking?

Hell, I'm still using a 13" Macbook Pro from 2013 and the thing is a speed demon. Macs will get their day in the sun, probably in the next couple of months. There isn't a pressing need to update them right now.

Anyone else notice that home sharing no longer auto plays the next episode of a TV show. I loved that feature and now it's back to AppleTV 3 functionality of dropping back to the menu after each episode.

Since there was really no word of tvOS 10 today, what's the possibility of it being announced with the presumed Mac event later this fall along with a new Apple TV 5?

It's weird that tvOS 10 wasn't included in the launch dates given today but the only reason I can think of is to maybe launch it with a brand new Apple TV tbh. It doesn't make sense to announce that with Macs on the other hand so idk.

Where is the single sign in option that is mentioned any time tvOS 10 is talked about.

Am I missing it in options or what.

You're missing the fact that there are no iOS10 compiled Apps our there yet. They will drop soon after the OS goes public. Developers have to re-compile their apps under iOS10 once they've implemented the new SDK SSO APIs.

No I get that. But something like this I would think it would be an option in system and just have blank list or such. Like the subscription section of system menu.
