That is not possible on anything other than a BluRay disc where the audio is embedded into the record.
Ahhhh, thank you. The Nvidia Shield chatter I get is aaarrggghhhh, lol. I always maintain that if you want true audio go discs. I'm sure Shield's audio passthrough is impressive compared to Apple's but no deal breaker for me.

For those who choose to connect the ATV directly to their tv would require a tv with HDMI 2.1 & eARC with features such as Bitstream Passthrough on the tv itself for this to work properly. It would also require a soundbar or AVR with HDMI 2.1 & eARC as well. There are plenty of soundbars on the market with eARC,
Hot Rhino Poop!!! I read awhile ago about PCM and Bitstream and had changed my tv setting to bitstream. The Blu-Ray player is in the A9.
Again, thanks for the explanation of the Apple TV's shortcomings with audio passthrough.
