Apple today seeded the second beta of tvOS 27 to developers for testing purposes, with the update coming two weeks after Apple released the first beta following the WWDC keynote.

The beta can be downloaded and installed through the Settings app on the Apple TV. A free developer account is required.

tvOS 27 has few new features compared to the other 27 software updates, but it does add a redesigned Podcasts app, options for larger text, and a more responsive Control Center.

AirPlaying to an Apple TV from another Apple device is faster, and apps and animations are smoother. You can also now see AppleCare coverage details in the Settings app.

More on the features in tvOS 27 can be found in our Apple TV roundup.

Just tried to download and I got a download error, saying “unable to install. But it looks like it hard to tell

I download all Developer Betas, except for tvOS and WatchOS. Those are the only two that I can't revert to the previous version without visiting an Apple Store (435 miles away). Every other DB has been incredibly smooth so far. So, I went ahead and upgraded my Apple Watch Ultra 2 to the DB. I'm still not brave enough with tvOS. Every year, after upgrading to the DB on the tvOS, I have issues where two pairs of AirPods Pro will not stay connected simultaneously to the Apple TV. it randomly disconnects them. So, I avoid that one.

Why isn't there an Apple TV IPSW tvOS 27? Is it now only OTA? You can use a Mac to revert right? I never had to and just assumed you could.

Apple TV 4K doesn't have a data port. You can revert to the most recent stable public release, but only if you have an older Apple TV with a USB-C or USB-A port. For newer Apple TV models (Apple TV 4K), you can't downgrade manually and must wait for the next public software update.

EDIT: After doing a little research, If the appleTV has a USB-C Port, the only way is to use Apple Configurator on a Mac and flash a tvOS IPSW. The features for the Apple TV are not enough for me to go through all that. So, I'll just wait until September.

If anyone has updated to beta 2 of iOS 27 on their phone there's now an option to update your Apple TV through the Home app.
Interesting. I see it's brought up by tapping on the gear icon in the lower right corner of a specific Apple TV's info pane, or whatever Apple's name for this is.

I hear ya, last time I installed a tvOS beta — it made some of my accessories unreliable, which was a drag.

I'm still getting the clicking/voice sync issue with the latest update. Restarting the Apple TV solves it for a while but it eventually comes back. And of course home sharing is dismally broken.

My version two was working until recently. Now I continually get a message that AirPlay is not available even though I’m connected through HDMI…. can’t watch anything and have to revert back to my Directv box.

I have literally had connectivity issues on every single Apple TV beta that I have installed. It never clears up during the beta process. It only clears up once the public release is issued. I refuse to ever install a beta on any of my Apple TVs just for that reason.
