I hope software development is advancing due to the new collaboration. The increasing frequency of updates and bug fixes is excellent.

Very much looking forward to OS X adopting iOS 7'a design. #

I have no problem with flat design.... BUT please do not bring the icons to OS X, please, just please no. I am getting used to the icon, but still looks childish to me....

I hope OS X 10.10 will not be created with the same philosophy Microsoft created Windows 8 thinking that we all now have huge touchscreen displays in front of our desktops. Seriously I installed Windows 8 on Fusion out of curiosity and I was like 'what were they thinking?'.

Whether you like or not, the trend is pretty much obvious now. Apple keeps bring iOS apps to OS X, keeping OS X app as simple as iOS app. I am not sure if Apple would do next version, but when the time come, iOS and OS X will merge together....

I don't. There's nothing wrong with the rather neutral and timeless design they have now for OS X. That's why it has been working fine for so long.

By bringing in a totally new iOS7 flat design with pastel colors, well... I think it's a mistake.

Then we can definitely agree to disagree. I say bring it. Bring it all over Apple. I seriously want all the icons between the two match up and unify the image of the two OSes completely. Would also be very helpful to newcomers to Macs who are coming from iOS devices only as it would all be familiar ground.

No.

Oh yeah?

:D

YES! Looks great! :D

Although I don't think iOS 7 styled icons in OS X should have to be forced in the rounded iOS app box, but having similar color cues and design objects like how the new iWork and iLife apps between the two OSes match is perfect IMO.

As far as icons continue to be modificable, I couldn't care less about that feature... Now, 10.9 is filled up with very important bugs, not just apps like mail, but specifically external monitors that lost their native resolution after coming from sleep is a big facepalm for apple.

Lucky you...but...

Honestly, the .0 release of Mavericks was one of the more stable releases I had installed in a while.

There are a ton of people, me included, who are struggling with the instability of this OS including issues with:

* Hangs on install
* the Mail app
* system hangs
* slow performance
* Finder issues (how can that be? Geez)
* slow boot up
* slow shutdown and system hangs on shut down

plus many many others.

Consider yourself fortunate and then read this thread and see how the rest of us are suffering:

Honestly, I really question Apple's beta testing program. This is not Windows where they try to support 15 year old hardware as well as new hardware: for 10.9 Apple officially DOES NOT support hardware (pretty much) older than 5 years old. I really don't understand....

And there is also plenty of blame to spread around, especially the drive maker, WESTERN DIGITAL, who totally phoqued their Apple-based customers who upgraded to 10.9. Maybe Apple and WD share the same testing team.

:eek:

OS X 10.9.2, nicknamed "Carve", is also said to be in testing with Apple's software engineering teams, adding minor feature enhancements and additional bug fixes after the 10.9.1 update.According to 9to5Mac, Apple is also continuing work on the next iteration of OS X, 10.10, which has been seeded internally. The next iteration of OS X is said to alter the look of the operating system to bring it in line with iOS 7.

I hope Apple is planning on sharing what this looks like before release.

Other than that, Mavericks has been fairly easy. No problems with Mail and my Gmail account. The one thing that really annoyed me was that the App Store/Software Update settings defaulted to "On" with no warning, and there were apps that were updated automatically, which I did not want. Now I have 3-4 apps that are basically useless to me now.

I only mention that as a warning to potential upgraders. Make sure you check your App Store settings *before* you go to the App Store.

I wish they would fix mail. Forever issues with Exchange account and even some with iCloud. I have to manually "synchronize" account multiple times a day. Seems silly. Also, mail on MBPro 13 broke Daylite mail sync, while standard 10.9.0 update to older mac did not.

the slightest mention of iOS and boom! Everyone jumps to conclusions that 10.9.2 will be iOS7 for mac lol...... Why can't logic flood all brains

So with 10.10 the Mac OS will be gone and iOS will run on the Macs? :eek:

With the iOS devices Apple seems allergic to the idea of these devices being able to have drives plugged directly into them (like on a Mac).

So here is my biggest fear. I hope that the merger of Mac OS with iOS does not result in EVERYTHING being forced onto the cloud (e.g concept of personal LOCAL storage disappears). I want my data on MY drive in MY house ONLY!!! The "cloud" is a fluffy euphemism for "your data on someone else's drive". This would also mean that when you go to read/write your data, you better hope the internet is having a good day.

Once all personal storage is gone what is to stop the "cloud" service providers from continually jacking rates like the Cable companies? You want your data….PAY ME!!!

Also, privacy issues abound. The only thing the spook agencies (also hackers and nosey cloud server geeks, etc.) can't get to today is the data on your personal drives (unless you leave your computer on and connected to the internet...then all bets are off).

When all data in the U.S. is centralized in the cloud the NSA will have ALL our data as you will no longer have any local data. And the only way to read/write files will be via internet, where EVERYTHING is monitored (already a fact with Prism and NSA leaks).

Why do I feel like I'm part of a flock of sheep watching a fence go up, knowing a fence is going up, but continuing to graze passively? What happens when the last section of fence is installed?

I'm cautiously optimistic. iOS 7 is growing on me, but I do feel that the current OS X design language is still remarkably elegant. I find myself thinking at least once a day just how gorgeous it is. They had better be very careful with 10.10.

It's not 10.10

10.10 was called Puma. It came out in 2001. The next version after Mavericks would be Mac OSX 11, assuming they continue this naming convention.

Why specifically? (Genuinely curious)

Glad you asked. Well pretty common problems. Those annoying random beachballs. The slow overall performance in finder and system preferences and throughout the os. The annoying sleep glitch were it takes 40 secs for your machine to fully sleep not just sleep the display. It was fine in ml.

I said this before but i will say it again. The first developer previews were awesome and much better than ml. Then around dp3 it got slow and crappy with less bugs yes but still slow. Now, its both. I was going to clean install but i heard it barely helps for mavericks. I did it for ml back in june and it helped for 3 days then got slow again. So, maybe i did it wrong but i doubt it.

I wish i could find our 10.6 disc.
