There's something very weird going on in the background - M1 MacBook Pro I'm testing on is HOT all the time and the battery drains 100 to 0 in about an hour which is insane for it. Restarts don't fix it and Activity Monitor shows kernel_task taking many thousands CPU% constantly. Which makes it very laggy. This has been on all betas of this version. Could be a rare thing affecting me, but I don't think it's stable if that's happening.
Have you booted up in safe mode?

Start up your Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu
    2f77cc85238452e25cb517130188bf99.png
    > Shut Down.
Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
  2. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
  3. Select a volume.
  4. Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.
I don't like that the laptop is running hot all the time. Sounds like some kind of hardware failure more than software. have you also ran diagnostics? If backed up you can also take this to the Apple store and have a DFU restore done to it.

Apple silicon

  1. Press and hold the power button on your Mac. (Every Mac has a power button. On laptop computers that have Touch ID, press and hold Touch ID.)
  2. As you continue to hold the power button, your Mac turns on and loads startup options. When you see Options, release the power button.
  3. Press and hold Command (⌘)-D on your keyboard.

Will try and report back whether the issue persists in safe mode. It could definitely be an app going crazy - I run a lot of stuff that requires SIP disabled.

The last Sonoma Beta killed my 27 inch 2019 i9 Intel iMac. it never finished installing. Stuck in a loop and shuts off.

I have Ventura 13.41 on a 2019 i9 Intel MacBook Pro. Runs smooth as butter. even with just 16 GB of ram.

I'm staying on Ventura. The new features besides looking more and more like iPad OS instead of MacOS because of the added widgets and iPad like Lock Screen are minor updates and kinda dum.

Also my iMac was taking forever to come to the desktop image. going thru all sorts of resizing and other BS before I got a fully working desktop. Ventura Never did this.

Sorry about that. We are with the 27 inch 2019's i9 Intel as well, and we had no issue on any of the betas for Sonoma.
Hoping to install on the internal fusion drive on next weeks.

Are you having any timemachine's backup? or some cloned disk may be of help.

Anyone else having any issues with the podcast app? The last 3 beta downloads, all I get is a download failure when trying to play/download a podcast episode.

Killed I doubt, you should be able to reinstall macOS through the recovery, no? If it doesn't that really sucks 😦

HI,

I detected an issue regarding pdf files and Preview app so submitted a ticket with Feedback app. Here is the answer received yesterday:

As a result of your feedback, there are changes in the latest update, build 23A5286g, that have resolved this issue.
You can see the software build your device is running and check for the latest update by clicking on the Apple logo in the upper left hand corner > About This Mac. If the build is not visible, click on the macOS version, e.g. 10.15.x, to reveal it.

Has this issue been resolved after installing the latest update?

Feedback ID FB12303791, Preview app won't open some pfd's

Do not reply to this email. Please login to Feedback Assistant to let us know if the problem is fixed for you.

I have to check later today if the issue has been fixed.

Considering one can’t install DB3 currently without signing up on Apple’s developer site without knowing the necessary steps to run recover MacOS as well as back up first. There is no Sonoma killed my Intel Mac. Just another example of putting down an unreleased MacOS before anyone really has a chance to use it via the PB. :D

You don’t need a dev account to download and install macos dev betas

But I also doubt they killed it
I meant you need to have logged onto the Apple Developer site with your Apple ID, not that you need to have a developer account currently for access to Sonoma dev betas. ;)

Consider this topic will soon be moot as they are likely launching the PB access today due to the beta.apple.com site is down currently.

You do not need to create an account on the apple developer site to download and install any macos beta

You don’t even need to have any Apple ID

Anyone can download them directly from apple’s servers through web browser or terminal

Not any more, that changed. with recent discontinuation of profile to Apple ID with recent Ventura releases. If profile still works consider yourself fortunate. When I go to https://developer.apple.com/news/releases/?id=12132017a, and click on download it requires a Apple ID to access that dev beta. They also removed the utility in terminal that worked previously also. Those commands don't work any more.

You also don’t need a profile

Trust me

I updated to the most recent Ventura and Sonoma betas this morning. You just have to know how to find them

Why would anyone bother to do that? Go legit instead of playing games with dev betas.

all you need to do currently is:
  • Head to Apple’s beta software portal on your device’s Safari browser and sign up with the primary Apple ID you use on the device. If you’ve previously signed up, you can sign in and select Get started.
  • If you’re signing in for the first time, you need to enroll your Apple ID into Apple’s Beta Software Program. This involves agreeing to a lengthy set of terms and conditions. Did we mention this was at your own risk?
  • Once you’ve agreed, you’re now done with enrollment — your Apple ID essentially becomes your public beta pass, and you don’t need to download profiles like with previous versions.
It's free now. Just don't pay the $99 fee if your going this new method for developer beta access.

Or you could just download the dev betas directly from apple’s servers. No Apple ID or beta enrollment required

You still get feedback assistant and the ability to report issues

I would argue why bother going through all the hassle of your method?

Maybe because you're not divulging your secret decoding method of accessibility. :p

PS the public betas are now out so this back and forth is pointless now.

perhaps

but the point of the back and forth was that you claimed that you needed to sign up on apple dev site to download db3 and I was trying to explain this was never necessary

Not that many people would use a specific link path from Apple's software catalog domain server. But I do see it used a lot by many asian sites possibly to avoid something. But it's nice to know about alternatives still. It's certainly not going to be available as quickly as having an account on dev site, but to each their own. ;)

This 2nd seed of developer beta 3 is causing huge issues on my Intel macbook Air 2020. The first beta 3 seed was fine, but ever since installing the 2nd beta 3 which I assume is the same as the public beta, my laptop has been powered completely off the last 2 mornings and when I get it all booted up and logged back in, I get this crash report about it powering off. Well this morning, it stays up for about 15-20 minutes and then shuts off again. I'm about to lose it.. had none of these issues on the first 3 betas before this 2nd beta 3..
