While mini-LED is interesting tech and nice for content consumption, as a graphic designer and photographer this doesn't help me because I need my screen contrast to be closer to what my client's screens are.

I don't know why Apple is so in love with MiniLED. The high quality LCD screens are still fantastic, or just switch to OLED.

I hate to agree. Even Eizo monitors have a bad contrast ratio.

OLED displays have proven to be pretty well performing and popular. Why complicate things by trying to shoehorn another different panel tech into Apple products? Can they not get the OLED panel sizes they need in the numbers they need to mass produce iPads and MacBooks? Supply must be dire on the OLED side if they have to turn to mini-LED for some of these devices yet still can’t get enough of those either.

For iPhone, it's impossible but monitors are quite possible since South Korea developed a new technology for MicroLED. They were able to put 1225 LEDs in 100mm2. And they will transfer their technology to either Samsung or LG within 2 years so we'll see.
Isn’t that about 90 dpi? Still sub-Retina for a Mac, especially if these are individual colors.

That's a prototype and it's not 90 dpi. 100㎛ has 254 PPI. They said they can make a MicroLED display denser than 50㎛. Not enough for iPhone but it's enough for most displays. Samsung also said that if they can achieve 50㎛ or less while they reduce the price by 1/10, then they will ditch OLED. Fortunately, that new technology that I mentioned reduce the overall price by 1/10 and several times faster than before. I dont know how long will it take to make a real one but at least they developed a technology to make MicroLED much sooner than before.

Interesting, thought miniLED was stated as delayed for MacBooks this year and instead next year.
Is it expected to be in this year's Pro's?

i think he wanted to say that its very hard to have mini-led with control for individual pixels..since mini-led still at the core is lcd tech and not oled...micro-led can do that...but we are 10 years away
Indeed. That's what I'm trying to say. Perhaps I should be more articulate next time.
;)

Honestly I am starting to notice more how much better my mini LED iPad screen is compared to my 2018 iPad. Ironically I think I need it less in a laptop relative to a big iPad

DigiTimes is on fire lately…

Looks like MBP was suppose to be announced during WWDC. But it was pulled last minute. Tough year for Apple suppliers so far…
In the past, including last year as I remember, Apple will quietly tamp down hardware rumors so as not to disappoint us fans. They did not do that this year, this backs up your take.
Having said that, I also thought it highly unlikely they would come out with M2's this fast. It hasn't even been a year. When on the Intel roadmap we were lucky to get an update in under 18 months.
I think we might have to wait a year for a new processor, just like the phone waits a year.
