So does that mean that the rumored iPhone X (or whatever they're going to call it) Plus is going to begin at $999?
I think it is quite likely they want to get a base price for all their models below $1,000. There is something psychological about the $1K barrier and it would stand out to see one model on the keynote slide priced at $1,099.

I'm betting they keep the same 64GB base memory too in an effort to get the iPhone X Plus to $999 while driving customers to pony up the extra $150 to get the 256GB storage. I still don't understand why they don't have a 128GB option for $50 more other than milking unnecessary costs from their customers.

The way I see it, as a global conglomerate Samsung can afford to stop profiting from high-end iPhone screen productions. Are they still the main global supplier of NAND and RAM chips?

Why cut the retail price if sales are strong? I can understand wanting to get a better deal on displays from Samsung to increase margin, but a company should only cut prices if sales slow down. In Apple's case they could raise the price even higher and the brand is strong enough to sustain it. Tim Cook has been good at leveraging the brand in most cases, but a price cut does not maximize profit.

So you want an iPhone that’s more than $1,200? Seems like a step backwards to increase prices if there are no factors of increasing development and advertising cost.

Everything I have read suggests sales would better be described as ‘adequate’ as opposed to ‘strong’ - they undersold consensus expectations by a few million units upon release - not really a huge deal at the moment, but as iPhones are 2/3 of apple’s business and the iPhone X is the future of the line they cannot afford for any model to underperform going forward... the XI if it is otherwise much the same as the X is going to start to become a very hard sell at the same price, considering the X has probably largely saturated the $1k+ market and of those I expect quite a few won’t upgrade every year even for a compelling new model.

Isn’t Apple the most profitable company? Their iPhone X is already the most profitable phone. Doesn’t hurt for them to take a cut for their customers.

You answered yourself your own question: Apple will lower the price because sales are not good at all. The price tag is so high that iPhone X flopped.

Better take that savings and invest in iOS12, because iOS11 makes you want to throw your iPhone in the trash.

Unless my current phone breaks, I am not even bothering with new models. Just don't see a reason anymore of yearly upgrades. Hardware changes have been small, software changes have been even smaller. I love Apple but the magic of yearly releases is definitely gone. Should take a year off and put more thought into the designs before starting up again. A price drop passed onto customers would help but then again it's all in your minds when you look at the past releases and see you need more accessories than ever when it comes to Apple products.. more accessories = more cost.

So, in your universe, sales are either strong or not good at all? Little bit of a black and white view.

The pricing rumors are showing an $899 for a regular X. The LCD 6.1” rumored model price points are all over the map between $550-$800. Apple would be wise to drop its iPhone X asking price because the phone may not be selling in droves like it should.

I find it hard to believe that Apple has even drop of negotiating leverage in this assuming the discussions are even real. Apple has absolutely nowhere else to go.

Apple is turning to JDI for LCD panels.

If Samsung refuses, Apple can turn up the specs on the 6.1” LCD model.

I hope these demands are not met so our next iPhones have less crappy Samsung components. The goal should be Samsung-less iPhones within a few years. Stop giving those rip off merchants our money.

"rip off merchants" that make a good number of the best components in their categories. Samsung makes quality components, no way to get around that fact.

I always felt the phone was priced hundred dollars too high or needed to include wireless ear buds like BeatsX if you’re trying to sell it for thousand dollars. This puts the iPhone X on par with where it should’ve been In the first place. When you look at the competitions pricing this is now more in line with the premium phone price.

I think all previous iPhone X owners should be offered a free set of wireless earbuds in compensation. Lol

I wouldnt mind a iPhone X Plus without an OLED screen and everything else being the same if it would mean saving even more than 100$. I don’t like these „oil filmish“ looking screens anyway

Disagree, the newest software ends up running so slow on older phones that you will be forced to upgrade.

Hope they negotiate the deal. I doubt Samsung will pass on a 100mill order but we'll see. I'm sire LG is getting better and better.

I wonder how current X owners will feel if the new X has an A12 and lower price tag?

If they are anything like me they will feel mostly alright and generally excited for the next model since I paid over the odds for a yearly upgrade contract with my carrier

I imagine so.

As the plus version I’m guessing will be same price as the current iPhone X.

Which would make the new iPhone X a more popular option at 899 price.

They are not gonna lower the X price. It will go towards increased profit margins.
If it hasn’t sold as strong as they expected they will lower the price.

Incorrect this year, IOS12 will be bug fixes. This is a perfect time for them not to release hardware updates. IOS12 will follow IOS11 suit and drop no current hardware.

That's exactly what it is. Apple knows 64 GB isn't enough for many people anymore. Why let them upgrade to 128 GB for $100 when you could force them to upgrade to 256 GB for $150. A phone with 256 GB of storage is absolutely overkill for most people, but with no 128 GB option, you don't have a choice.

Would it kill Apple to open their own factory to just make displays overseas?

Yes, it would :)

No way will Apple get their hands dirty by actually owning factories full of cheap workers and hazardous materials.

It would mean they couldn't make PR claims about being green and caring and all that.

That's why they invest money in such places without asking for actual ownership. Avoiding responsibility is the name of the game, especially when demanding lower profits and higher output from suppliers.
