I was at http://www.apple.com/iphone-6/design/ looking to see if the back of the space gray phone had a stainless steel or anodized aluminum camera to get an idea of it was going to get scratched up and noticed most of the side views of the new iPhone have left off the camera.

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking.... they showed it in the keynote with the camera, though.

I hate to criticize but considering that most people think the non-recessed camera ring is a bit of an issue they should probably not pretend it's not there in the product images.

Its not that they forgot but I think it was a deliberate decision so it looks as thin as possible.

No biggie considering the camera is on the opposite end of all those photos. And a ring adhered to the back of the render would detract from the photo. We all know it's there by now.

Detract from the photo? You mean detract from the phone surely.

I find these photos super deceptive. The protruding camera is a major design flaw. That thing is going to rock back and forth on tables now, and I commonly use my phone while it's lying on a flat surface. Sigh.

Sometimes I wish Apple would get over the whole thinness obsession and start focusing on the battery life obsessions we care so much more about at this point. Then the camera would be flush with the back. Sigh again.

False. This doesn't happen with the iPod touch which as a protruding camera.

Apple puts more thought into their products than you do in your comments.

No, the photo. The impression it gives you of the phone is a different matter. As others have pointed out, these images don't show the camera side, so there's no reason NOT to remove the blurry smudge that it would end up being in a side view like that. The issue isn't the photo edit. The issue is that they fail to show the camera side in profile at all, presuming that's the case. I haven't looked yet so I don't know.

I personally don't mind the protruding camera but I find it upsetting that it was left out of the pics. It does feel deceptive to me.

They kind of did the same thing with the new iMacs when they redisigned them. they showed an angle that only showed the thin ledge, but completely left out the huge hump on the back

The Touch camera is the same way. I could have played The Great Carnac and predicted that the 6 camera was going to be the same way, but had other things going on...

Those that seek to romp around free from encumbrance (naked) might find this a reason to buy at least a small case of some kind...
