I went back to my local store today and found the merchandise gone. I asked around, and they said it was for the Holiday Weekend only. I snapped these photos while getting my pen earlier in the week.

So I just called the Clarendon store to see if they had any left or took down the display - and its true!! :( The guy on the phone actually said it was only supposed to be for the one night special event - so it looks like there is a reason to go to the next one.

Bastards!!!

Okay, people. Chill out.

Let me throw some logic into this discussion. We know most of the stores have these logo goodies in stock, right? Apparently not all stores had the merchandise on display, and the stores which did have them on display, they are now abruptly removed.

So the stores have this logo merchandise. Since they're not in the front of the store, they're in the back of the store.

Theory: They'll be used later in the year!

From what I gathered when I called, Easton's Apple Store never even recieved them.

Out in San Jose

When I went to the Valley Fair store in San Jose a few weeks back to buy my 1GHz TiBook, they had them at the register, but I didn't buy anything.

The next day, when I went with my wife when she went to buy her 1GHz TiBook, they were gone. While we were back at the Genius Bar filling out paperwork, I asked what happened to them (I wanted to show them to her).

The salesperson told me that Apple told them to put them away...it's apparently a trial to see how they'll sell. It's a shame, as I liked a few of the items, such as the keychain and luggage tag. If they'd still been there, I would have bought them.

Oh, well. Perhaps I'll drive over to Cupertino and see if they've got them at the corporate store...as soon as I figure out if I can get into it without having an employee escort.

At the Grove store in LA, the story is pretty much the same...they had them, then they didn't, then they had them again, and now they won't sell them at all.

That said, I found a sales guy who was willing to follow up with the manager about the policy, and long story short, I left with quite a few items. I am going to keep a keychain, a knife, a pen, and give the rest away as stocking stuffers. This happened tonight BTW.

Never listen to the man, there's always a way.:)

Dam! I was right there to! RRRRR.... Well I hope it was a trial, they should bring them out closer to Christmas, that would be smart... :D I wanted a keychain too, and a pen would have been nice. As far as I am hearing these things FLEW off the shelves right? Well if they did I think we will see more of them soon. Great pictures by the way... :D

Ha, I went to Ohio State and lived in Dublin in the late 80s and early 90s - lived in the community built near the high school built in the mid 80s. Where are you?

Umm..

Can someone tell me why you'd want this advertising crap?
Yeah maybe if they were giving them away at conferences or expos, but to actually pay for it??

Some people actually ENJOY buying stuff with the Apple logo on it! Are you gonna complain to Victorinox or Wenger because they have their logo on their Swiss Army Knives? I mean c'mon.

Old Navy?
American Eagle?
Abercrombie and Fitch?
M.R. Ducks? (for maryland folks)

Your computer monitor or computer itself is tagged on the side of it...

My keychain *shock* holds my keys! I buy the Apple one to show that I like the product. My pen *shock* writes! It has an Apple logo...so?

Well, speaking for myself, I needed a keychain. The one that apple had was quite nice, so there you have it. I bought the other items, because at the time, there was such an uproar over whether they could actually sell them or not, it seemed unlikely that I would have another chance.

As for this advertising crap, I don't mind paying for it, because a) the price is negligible, and b) good quality corporate swag is hard to come by. I have received my fair share of free swag from tech companies, including Apple, and they tend to put time in making the gifts unusual and fun; the logo is just a plus.

I buy Victorinox because they make good knives.
I buy Manhattan Portage because they make good bags.
I (would) buy (a) Wenger (if I needed one) because they make good tools.
I buy Lamy because they make good pens.
I buy Apple because they make good computers (and because they're the only ones who make Macs)
I buy plenty of generic things because they're good value etc etc.

What exactly was your point?

I don't buy Apple products for the label and I'd be really worried if the majority of people did. They wouldn't be 'thinking different' if they were. I've always considered Apple customers pretty discerning. Maybe I was wrong.
