Apple Series 3 stainless vs Apple Series 4 aluminium GPS

Right now the Apple Series 3 Space Black Stainless Steel 42mm ( GPS + Cellular ) is the same price as Apple Series 4 Space Gray Aluminium 44mm GPS model. On sale until Apr 25

From what I read on Apple site, the Series 3 GPS + Cellular has 16GB storage , Ceramic and sapphire crystal back which the GPS version of the Series 3 had Composite back and 8GB storage.

Is gaining the Space Black case and Sapphire crystal glass face instead of Ion-X glass face better upgrade than the Series 4 performance upgrade?

Ordered this from Best Buy but asking myself if this was better choice.

Appreciate thoughts on this

I can't read from your post which one you got exactly. But having a space black 4 myself I say get the 4 and if you got the 3 get the 4 instead. The screen is awesome and the speed id nice. But the whole package is a better value than the stainless 3. This may change in 2 generations but at the moment there are huge leaps between generations.

I ordered the Apple Series 3 ( GPS + Cellular ) Space Black Stainless Steel Case with Black Sport Band.

Actually do not like the rounded corners of watch display Series 4 , prefer the square corners on Series 3

Just to add to this listing posted by this member, B&H Photos customer service is almost on par with Apples, and that says a lot given that Apple has legendary customer service. I would not hesitate to purchase from B&H Photo, not just for an Apple Watch, but any Apple product.
 
I debated the same thing and ended up getting the Series 4 Aluminum GPS for $329. Was very tempted by the 3 Stainless, but everyone I know, including my wife that upgraded from 3 to 4 said it was worth it. I never owned an Apple Watch before and this gave me a good chance to try the latest and if I really like it will just trade it in for a 5 Stainless or even Hermes in the Fall.

Originally wanted the Hermes, but that was ton to spend on something I did not know if I wanted.

I got my AW at Walmart and it has a 90 day return policy too.
 
I just got my SSSB series 3 about 3 weeks ago and also was trying to decide if I should have just gotten the series 4.
My decision came to the resell value. I knew I would have lost more with the series 4 SS version if I upgrade next year.
Also I might wait for the series 5 gets discounted to upgrade. Most likely because it will improve on the series 4 and hopefully has better battery life.

I’m curious to see if Apple will return the Hermes watch this fall, not saying there’s any reason not for them to, but I question how long that relationship will last.

I would think they would still sell the Hermes, as it seems to sell well. Until recently, it was a long wait to get one both on Hermes site and Apple site. Hope they do, as always nice to have options.
 
Because I was having second thoughts about the Series 3 Space Black Stainless Steel case with Black Sport Band ( not arrived yet from Best Buy ).

I ordered the Series 4 44mm Nike+ Silver Aluminum case with Summit White Nike Sport Loop. Never had scratches on any of my iPhones from first gen to current XR without using screen protectors.

Most of the time I wear long sleeve's or light jacket in summer as I burn too easy. Hopefully I will not need the Sapphire crystal glass ? For first time I will get AppleCare +

Out of these 2 , maybe Series 4 better in long run?
thoughts ?

When I received the Apple watch from Best Buy, shipping label was from Service/Repair dept of Best Buy, box dented and plastic wrap torn. Needless to say I took receipt from Best Buy online and returned it without taking watch out of the box.

The Series 4 Nike+, I ordered directly from Apple Store with AppleCare, so I am expecting it to be new.

I see the s3 didn’t work out, which is too bad. But one thing I’ll point out anyway is that it really depends on whether you’d activate and use the cellular. I have a s3 with cellular and wouldn’t go to a gps-only model.

I’m not a big fan of Best Buy, they’ve had issues like this in the past with some of their products/shipping. And like you mentioned, when it’s coming direct from Apple, rest assured, it will be new and if there is an issue, they stand behind everything.

Received the Series 4 from Apple so it was new. I had issue with wallet/apple pay, one bank no problems of having apple pay on both iPhone XR and Apple watch same time but main bank I deal with their software only supported Apple pay on iPhone. Using Apple Pay without taking iPhone out of pocket was one of main reasons to use Apple watch.
So I sent it back to Apple same day. Maybe when Apple watch Series 5 comes out BMO bank will update their software.
For now , not meant to be for me Apple watch ((((
