Nah, the leading candidate to replace Steve Jobs as CEO is the guy who has been acting CEO twice: Tim Cook.

The acting CEO who is as much responsible for Apple's success as Jobs. Apple's biggest competitive advantage is their supply chain which Mr. Cook has always been responsible for.

Well there we have it.
Financials the 19th.
Lion & MBAs the 26th.
I'm thinking

Tue 19 - financials
Fri 22 - OS X Lion
Tue 26 - new Macs TBD

The 26th for Lion would certainly be in line with previous OS release dates.

Once Apple announces the date of their earnings call, they DO NOT RELEASE NEW PRODUCTS until after the call. Not sure why everyone doesn't get this yet. It was obvious that there were not going to be any updates this week because of this.

There is quite a bit of risk in saying "Apple does not do ..." It is far safer to say, "Apple has not done ..."

Absolutely.

It's one thing to create innovative products. It's a totally different thing to bring them to market and make a tidy profit.

Tim Cook is a genius in managing the supply chain. His first brilliant move was to get Apple out of the manufacturing business and partner with contract manufacturers.

Except the fact All Things Digital reports a late next week release, and with Walt at ATD, I doubt they are wrong. So look for a 20-22 release of the hardware, the software may launch the 19-22.

Hardware will more likely land after the software is out.

Yeah, I'd believe Walt over most of the other Apple rumor sites, and certainly more than any of the professional analysts, however ATD isn't going to be always right.

If I recall correctly, an analysis was recent done about Apple rumors and Cnet actually scored the highest although the hit rate was still quite low.

I don't see Apple launching their software the same day of their conference call (Tuesday the 19th). Shareholders might accuse them of manipulating the stock market to divert attention from their financial reporting. (Not that I expect anything but another record-setting quarter from Apple, led by iPhone sales.)

There is quite a bit of risk in saying "Apple does not do ..." It is far safer to say, "Apple has not done ..."
Actually, there's little risk in him saying that. Apple is very, very predictable in the way how they announce their financial earnings.

For product announcements and releases, they are far less predictable.
