Apple has settled a class action lawsuit related to the Powerbeats 2 headphones, which was levied against the Cupertino company after some customers found that the Powerbeats 2, first released in 2015, had a defect that could cause them to stop working and fail to retain charge after "minimal usage."

Plaintiffs alleged that Apple misrepresented the battery life of the Powerbeats 2, and that the Powerbeats 2 were sweat and water resistant. Apple was also accused of not repairing or replacing defective Powerbeats 2 within the one-year warranty period, with the lawsuit initially filed in 2017.

There was no ruling by the court as Apple and the plaintiffs in the case have agreed to a settlement that will see Apple paying $9,750,000. Apple says that it denies all allegations and is paying the settlement fee to avoid expensive litigation. The $9.75 million will be split between all Class Members who submit claim forms (one payment per household) after attorneys' fees and related costs are paid.

Details about the settlement were sent out to Powerbeats 2 owners this evening. Customers who purchased new Powerbeats 2 earbuds before August 7, 2020 can claim a payment from the settlement after it is approved by the Superior Court of the State of California, Santa Clara County. A hearing is set to be held on January 15, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.

For those who owned or own Powerbeats 2, claims can be submitted online through the settlement website, which also includes more information on the settlement agreement. Those who want to participate in the settlement need to do so by November 20, 2020.

I’m still using mine.

they really don’t hold a charge though Like 3 in a half hours. Tell they die all the way I’m sticking with them.

Isn't Beats just a subsidiary of Apple? Shouldn't it be the Beat's CEO that is called out for this?

Some one should start a class action for AirPods and AirPods Pro as well!! Disposable after 1 year the AirPods! AirPods Pro one AirPod is not working, battery drains really fast! Not happy with the purchase.
I’m going back to wired connections!!
This.

Although to be honest how much battery life can anyone realistically expect of a device that small that has to push air plus act as a radio transceiver? AirPods remain an engineering marvel but surely, physics has its limits.

But my next phone, awaiting delivery, has a headphone jack.

Starting at full charge (100%), I use my Galaxy Buds+ for more than 3 hours and it never goes down below 70%.

The lawsuit is a class action against Apple -the parent company- for their Beats product. Afaik, the CEO of Beats is Tim Cook. Besides, nobody's calling out anyone. It's just a report of a class action being settled.

The CEO of Beats is Dr. Dre.

How long have you had the Galaxy Buds? The issue is over time, for me less than a year, I saw a significant drop in battery life with my AirPods. I don’t use my AirPod pros that often, so I can’t tell how those are holding up.

Two years of daily use is not minimal usage. That's 600+ deep charging cycles on a battery you need to handle with tweezers. Lithium Ion batteries have a cycle life.

As I've said before-- you're simply complaining that you've loved your Airpods to death.
How about less than a year? Apple is known for their products lasting for years!! Of course things degrade over time, but paying such a high price and things stop functioning, forgive me for complaining.

What’s a high price?

You aren’t paying for quality with Beats. You are paying for the name. If beats were good Apple would make it an Apple product.

How long ago did you purchase this ? And how often do you use it?
Since I purchased them 4 or 5 months ago, I've used them for more than a 100 times, each time for at least 1 and 1/2 hour.

Usually I pause when the Buds' battery goes below 90% (it takes ~1 hour to get there), then I give them a quick charge to 100%, then I continue.

You have the international warranty for that. I'm sure they'd be happy to replace the buds for you, as they have a massive profit margin on these. Even if they replace them twice for you, they'll still make money.

I don’t use Beats products! I pay for Apple! If you are following the thread we are talking about AirPods!
