I doubt Ive would want the CEO position. He's an awesome designer/engineer, but I don't think he has the market-smarts that Jobs does. He is best in his current position. I guess Cook could take the CEO spot if Jobs were to step down.
As long as the board makes it clear that Ive can have anything he wants to stay at Apple and keep doing what he is doing.

I hear Steve Balmer might need a new gig? :p

No seriously... they should look for a CEO outside the industry. Someone that knows "brands"... like maybe the CEO of Pepsi?

I'm sure Apple will run just fine without Steve Jobs.
It's like a good parent bringing up the kid, and once the parent teaches the kid everything, and the kid is big enough to take care of itself.. then the kid will do just fine.

Get well soon Steve.

Hmm..Jonny Ive as CEO? Well, design would be transcendent but internal HW would be saltine crackers.

That will NEVER happen and would be a super dumb move on the Board's part.

JI is a great design leader - great to have him on the Apple team - no experience for a CEO. More importantly - I doubt he has any meaningful vision on the Apple Ecosystem that is soooooooooo crucial now.

Apple should buy Facebook and make Mark Zuckerberg the next CEO. Sorry I just woke up from a terrible nightmare.

After that data center is open for a couple years, the future for iPads with gigs and gigs of storage onboard will be over. I still like onboard.

If Steve Jobs steps down then Jony Ive for CEO!

The "E" in "CEO" stands for 'executive', ie the one responsible for executing the business plan. There is no one on the planet proven better at that then Tim Cook.
The fact is that Jobs has always been terrible as an executive. His goodies have been pulled out of the fire time and time again by the great people he inspires to be around him.
The Ives, Schiller, et al braintrust will carry on the tradition quite well.
The one thing that will be hard to replace in Jobs will be his ability/willingness to prune dead branches and to send things back to the drawing board if they aren't perfect. I don't see anyone else who can turn the troops on a dime without questioning they way he can. Don't know if its fear or respect, but at the end of the day, what's the difference.

Steve's greatest product since his return from the wilderness hasn't been iPod, iPhone, iMac or iPad.
Its been "iApple". THAT'S his baby, and there's no way he's going to let it die the way it almost did last time, particularly now that he undoubtedly has a real sense of his own mortality.

Golden Ticket!

Maybe SJ will do like Willie Wonka and put 5 golden tickets in iPads?
