Yeah, nah. We’re living through the dark ages of pop. Even my kids won’t listen to today’s trash. They listen to more 60s–90s, and they’re not the only ones.
Uh… there was kids and adults in the 50s who thought Elvis sucked and would only listen to 20s Jazz.
There were kids and adults in the 60s who thought the British invasion was stupid, and would only listen to the classics from the originators of rock ‘n’ roll.
There were kids and adults in the 70s who thought disco and funk were just complete trash, clinging onto their 40s-60s records.
There were people in the 80s who thought synth Pop was just going way too far, again clinging onto Yesterdays music.
Same with the 90s with grunge, alternative, and hip-hop.
Same thing today. There are those who embrace modern music, those who are stuck in the past, and those, like me, who can appreciate both.
The original comment is far from wrong, Yesterdays trash is today’s classics, and today’s trash will be tomorrow’s classics.
And, 20-50 years from now when Gen-Z are A bunch of bitter old people who “just don’t understand and quiver with fear for the new generation,” they’ll be saying the same thing about that generation’s music.
Also it should be noted, with the invention of the Internet and the relative ease it is now to get your hands on very professional music making equipment, you could pretty much find any form of music out there today. If you spend some time actually looking, you’ll find some modern music that you enjoy, even if it’s not the stuff hitting the hot 100.

I agree. There's some hope on the horizon as far as classical goes because of Apple's acquisition of Primephonic. Of course, it could turn out to be one of those things where Apple winds up sidelining and destroying Primephonic, sort of like what Starbucks did with Teavana.

Thanks for that; good information.

Agreed! Hey, I know I sound like a grumpy old man clinging to the past, but I actually have a pretty diverse taste in music, from classical through to alternative rock, and a whole lot more besides. But look, choose any year from the late 60s or early 70s and compare the year’s hits to any year from the last decade. If you can honestly look me in the eye and tell me the quality hasn’t nose-dived, I’ll eat my iPhone.

...And there is truth to my age thinking today's music is garbage (still think that for the most part, I fail to see talent...*go Google "Island Boy" and um, why is this so popular?)

ANYWAY, in many ways I have become my dad in this situation. When MTV first aired in 1981, I was hooked. My dad would come into the room and literally mumble "what the h- is this sh**!?" (then kind of walk out in slight disgust ?) When I got into Hip Hop in the mid into the late 80's...whoa, he HATED that music!

But in the 90s, I grew up a little. Recall my dad and I on the Pacific Coast Highway in Cali, popped in Pink Floyd Delicate Sound of Thunder in the rental car and he loved that...he was more of a classical fan I grew to appreciate some of it, Beethoven's 9th, some Mozart, Vivaldi. He loved that Gregorian chant CD that was huge in 1994, 95, um..no...didn't like that. LOL.
