Marketing’s kids don’t even know what that is

So called status: yes.
Why: kid’s want to think their cool to hide insecurities etc. Same as we all did when we were the kids from yesterday.
The status thing ended years ago.

But the 15 + new AirPods are the same price for only the pro lol.

Much more value for your buck than a pro phone which isn’t even pro
Oh well... with old chip A16 from iPhone 14 Pro plus the spec lower than the 15 Pro Max spec? Also, it's made in India. 😂😂 I'd rather get the iPhone 14 Pro Max than 15 plus. 14 Pro spec is better than 15 plus still.

I actually don’t undeeerand how the iPhone 15 series phones are rated for 95 hours+ of music playback. My 15PM drains 50% on WiFi in my pocket with every conceivable battery drain setting turned off. It’s a nightmare. At best therefore it’s gonna get 50 hours. But 95 hours implies an iPhone can be on standby for 4 days?! No chance!
Just let Apple live in their own fantasy while we plebs deal with the reality.

This is already a society problem in and out of itself. But I don’t think Apple can walk away unscathed here.

My 13 pro max got better battery life after 2 years than my 15 PM does new. I rarely use any apps other than safari, mail, and messaging. I wanted to use the 80% charging but have to charge late afternoon if I do.

Anecdotally, I notice my colleague's 14 pro max seems to have fairly poor battery life. I wonder if it's a combination of 5g, the AoD, as well as some gaming she does here and there. My 13 pro max is still on 4g. Maybe the newer phones seem to have shorter battery life because they are constantly doing more?

my previous phone was a 12 pro max with 89% battery health by the time i traded it in. i had it from launch day until launch day of the 15 pro max. it still done me good but i could notice the drop in capacity. i bought a portable battery to top it up when out and about but i didn't really need to use it all of the time just if i was travelling or the odd time at work. the battery was still great on it.

i have a 15 pro max now and the battery life is insane. i keep it at 20-80% (charge limited to 80%) and it lasts so long. i last charged to 68% about 44 hours ago and i still have 42% left. to be fair i haven't been using it a lot but still a decent bit of usage. on more demanding days i can still easily stay between 20-80%. it's crazy to think that i'm not making use of 40% of the batteries capacity. once or twice i i have charged it to ~90-95% and drained it to 15% and it was a lot more impressive.

i can't think of any situation or scenario where i would need to use the full capacity of the battery. so i'm quite happy to stay in the 20-80% range to help keep the battery healthy as long as possible. i think this might be the first time i've owned a smartphone and felt satisfied with the battery. the 12 pro max was great but 15 pro max is the first time i've thought...i don't need all this battery but i'll take it anyway :)

i'm old enough to have used dumb phones which lasted weeks so when we all moved to smartphones the battery hit was a disappointment. slowly but surely we've got the battery life in smartphones to a point where they don't hold us back.

on my phone i don't play games or make heavy use of recording videos. i use it for taking photos of my cats, browsing safari/social media (ig, tiktok, reddit, x), watching youtube, listening to spotify, accessing important apps like banking/utilities, organising appointments/reminders, and sending messages...and making phone calls 😱

My work phone is a SE 20222, and my personal is a 13 Pro. I can easily see the difference in the screen refresh, especially when scrolling text....but I don't care in the slightest.

I charge my 13 Pro every day and a half, and it's at 86% health. What are you doing with your phone?
Right now YouTube, Ali express and Apple Music have used 70% battery today.

You're just using a different word to describe marketing and I hate to break it to you, but we all suffer from the same insecurities even as adults which is why marketing works for all social animals..

According to the students that I teach of ages of which you’re speaking about, that is totally false. They couldn’t give 2 craps about what music is used in Apple commercials. In fact, most of them think that stuff is cringe as hell. They prefer iPhone because it’s been what the rest of the world uses, including celebrities they admire. It’s that simple.
I have nephews that say the exact same thing. I would almost believe them until I hear them listening to the music they just dismissed. Kids hate to be categorized, deconstructed and manipulated more than anything but that doesn't mean you cannot easily do that and sell them crap.

To understand this is to understand the difference between how things work in theory and how things work in practice. Here's an old joke to explain the difference.

A son asks a father what the difference between "in theory" and "in practice" was. His father replies "go ask your older sister and mother if they would sleep with a man for 1 million dollars." The boy asks them. His sister replied "yes" and his mother replied "yes." So the boy returns his survey data to his father and asks "how is this relevant to the question?" The father responds "it's a good example, you see in theory we have 2 million dollars, but in practice we have 2 whores."

If battery is draining 50% just from WiFi, I'm guessing you've got spotty WiFi and the phone keeps disconnecting and trying to reconnect to WiFi. Or there is some issue that prevents the phone from entering low power standby mode.

I mean the 15. For the price of the pro you get an iPhone. Plus AirPods Pro. And the price of those combined is cheaper than 14 pro max or 15 pro.

Chineseguy38 doesn’t understand that not everyone has the same priorities. Higher specifications are important to him - which is fine. But not everyone feels the higher specs are worth the price. That’s why choice is good.

battery life could be even longer if iOS was better optimized and if the unwanted machine learning features can be disabled

Who cares where it's made? Do what you want, but I wouldn't buy a lightning device at this point under any circumstances.

Machine learning features like optimised charging?
There's so many over the years I've lost count.

Like siri suggestions, spotlight learning your app habits and memories/face detection feature of photos off the top of my head. Some people find those features useful, but not me, so I rather disable them and gain a bit of battery life, no matter how miniscule the gain might be.

Optimized charging feature is not an issue, but mandating the use for significant locations/machine learning for it to work (except 15 series with a hard 80% charge toggle. this needs to go out to all models.) is my problem with it.

I travel a lot with my 15 Pro Max and rarely if ever need a charge before end of day or experience any recharge anxiety. Spot on.

Thanks. Good examples. I use most of those you mentioned. I find App habits in conjunction with GPS location super useful for shopping/supermarket rewards etc helpful as it saves time. But I can see your point. Things like face detection etc, should occur when it’s charging.

I ended up turning 80% charging back on for my iPhone 15 Pro since 17.1 I only lose 10-15% during the day, unless I’m actively using it for music etc
