Apple Shares Latest iOS 16 Usage Statistics for iPhone Ahead of WWDC

I have one app my family uses on their iPads that’s abandonware at this point and crashes shortly after it launches. It ran fine under iPadOS 15 but not 16. There’s another vendor that has a similar app now but I can’t convince the others to switch and I guess this gives me an excuse to keep another iPad for myself 😊
May I ask what app you‘re using/looking to migrate to?

Still running iOS 15 on the iPhone 6S and it works like a charm. No issues, no slow downs, battery life good, does all things I need it to do with no fuss, and a bonus too - all in a small size.

Im still on 14.8 and the sky hasn’t fallen.
Edit: Funny that Apple will tell you how many people are on 16 but won’t specifically say how many iphones they sold last quarter.
That's a very good and valid point. I'm still not sure why Apple decided to do that.

I'm in the 13%. Only running iOS 15 cuz the 6S is too old. But will likely be running iOS 17 in October.

Dunno why 10% of people aren't running iOS 16 that can. Seems a no brainer this late in the year when all the v16.0 bugs should have been ironed out. 🤷‍♂️
They might have other devices that can’t be updated and don’t want to break compatibility with Notes or other apps that got breaking changes in iOS16. Or maybe just CBF (my wife hasn’t upgraded her iPad for these reasons).

Would be interesting to see these stats for Watch. My wife and I both have iPhone 7+ stuck on iOS 15 so are blocked from upgrading our watches to WatchOS 9.

Since it’s relevant l will point out that I purposely kept my second iPad on 15 after realizing the mistake I had made installing 16 on my main iPad.

They are both mainly used for watching tv shows and movies purchased from Apple. The TV app in 16 is a downgrade in every way that changed.

Apple today published its latest iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 adoption statistics, as measured by devices that transacted on the App Store on May 30. The numbers come just days ahead of WWDC, where Apple is expected to announce iOS 17.

Most importantly, Apple says 81% of all active iPhones are now running iOS 16, up from 72% in February. 13% of active iPhones are still running iOS 15, and 6% are running an even older iOS version, according to the data. iOS 16 was released to the public in September and is compatible with the iPhone 8 and newer.

Apple adds that 71% of all active iPads are now running iPadOS 16, up from 50% in February.

Around the same time last year, Apple revealed that 82% of all active iPhones were running iOS 15, so the usage statistics are very similar on a year-over-year basis. iOS 16 adoption will start to decline next week after Apple makes the first beta of iOS 17 available to members of its $99-per-year Developer Program for testing.

I’m still on 15 on my 12P. The battery life already sucks keeping it on dark mode all day, let alone downloading a more taxing iOS.
My rule is; one update per device, then stop. I’ve had my phone slow down and battery life vanish too many times in the past…never again!

It’s just an older game they like to play, one of the EA games. It didn’t work in betas of 14 and 15 either but when the OS versions were released the game worked again, didn’t happen with 16.

here are the Andriod Usage Statistics for April 2023. ("T" is the latest version, Andriod 13.)

Again proves why Apple is best at Software updates. very surprising that iOS 16 had more users than iOS 15 because 16 ended support for 6s, SE, 7, and Touch 7.
This mess is one of the reasons why I stay away from Android.

Especially considering the security updates they won't be getting. I guess some people enjoy living dangerously.
I've been getting security updates all year still on iOS 15. So Apple were still patching 15. But not sure when they stop and if that's when 17 is out or if they'll end then? (by which time I'll be on the latest and greatest phone again)
