That has to be the most shortsighted thing I've ever read...do you not plug in and charge your phone in your car? I'm using CarPlay exclusively in my new XC90, it's useful enough to replace the Sensus system. Hey, how's that Android Auto looking?

Also, you assume that all of these are not wireless capable with nothing to go on. My car has a WiFi, 3G, and Bluetooth radio...I imagine that one of those might happen to cover a wireless protocol such as AirPlay or WiFi Direct, wouldn't you? Or are you under the impression that specialized radio chips will need to be installed in all of these cars?
No, I certainly don't plug my phone in every time I get into the car. And yes, I will want to use these features every time I'm driving.

And yes, I assume that until Apple or the manufacture tells me otherwise, that the car will not support something other than what it is listed as doing. Never assume when it comes to making large purchases.

Trust me, I want this system badly, and I'm in the market for a new car (or at least an aftermarket unit). But I'm holding off of getting something until we know for sure that it will support wireless. It would be silly to buy something and find out in 3 months that it doesn't support the most recent features. It's not like an iPhone where I can just trade in for the newest model.

I guess Toyota nor Nissan are not "major automobile manufacturer" according to Apple since they say all major have them implemented or will have it. Lol. And yes I know Toyota went a different route.
I haven't followed this very closely at all in the last year or so, but I am incredibly surprised that Toyota hasn't jumped on board.

Why is Mazda still not onboard?
I was hoping Mazda would be on the list. I am most likely buying a new car in 2017, and was seriously considering a Mazda 5 or a Toyota Prius. Now it looks like I might be going the Honda route.

It feels silly to base my car purchase on carplay. But then I think about it. I keep cars for about 10 years. I spend about 2 hours or so a day in the car. I think this really is a non-negotiable for me. I've got a few more years on my current car (08 jeep compass) but I will definitely have carplay in my next car. Jeep, and other announced partners, and beyond, really need to get going on this.

I don't think this is a deal breaker for everyone, but i do think it's a growing number.

A lot or marquees don't appear on the list because they are owned by their parent brand. The only ones it appears not participating are Aston Martin, Lotus, and Tesla.

Toyota are going to be using telenav system and is supposed to work w both iOS and android. Just the interface will be different than CarPlay.

I disagree with your assumption. The list of non participants appears to be accurate. I did research and Bentley is not investigating CarPlay at this time (http://appleinsider.com/articles/15...o-the-auto-industry-at-least-outside-of-china). Lexus, which is owned by Toyota but not on Apple's list, is also not considering CarPlay at this time (http://bigstory.ap.org/article/040b...ands-plans-apple-carplay-googles-android-auto). Apple SEPARATELY lists all makes from Fiat Chrysler as CarPlay partners: Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, and Ram. So it would appear that Apple is listing not just "parent brands" but all brands.

I'm annoyed that Mini isn't on the list but not annoyed enough that I wouldn't buy another. Wouldn't be such an issue if the installed radio wasn't so integrated into car that you couldn't install a 3rd party radio.

And where is the 2017 MB GLS 450????

Mercedes has most models on there ... except the brand new GLC ... why not on a brand new model? (which happens to be on my wish list together with a few others not listed here - while car play wouldn't be the deciding factor, it could bring - carplay would have been a way to move up on the list for possible replacement cars)

Why is this not just software update for older cars? I have a 2014 Chevy with the Chevy MyLink system. It interfaces with an iPhone or iPod over USB or Bluetooth just fine. Why can't the software be updated to support CarPlay?

SUBARU!!!! *shakes fist*

I hear ya. Got a couple of them and would love an integrated Car Play option (as opposed to 3rd party).

I see the 2016 Suburban on there, though. Might be time to trade in my old '04...

Would be interesting to see if it is free or if one has to pay for it to be included or locked (as Mercedes does by charging thru the nose.)

Hmmm

No Jaguar and Land Rovers on the list yet... Even though they are listed as partners.

I wonder if support is coming with the new InTouch Pro system that's launching on the new XE and F Pace.

Ironically, VW has the most thorough CarPlay launch of any OEM. Every model got it at the same time, expect for the Touareg because that uses a different infotainment.

It's too early to choose a car based on CarPlay, I've got enough annoyances with iOS, I sure don't want more unfinished Apple software in my car. Give Apple a few years to sort it out.

All Google needs to do is add GMaps support to CarPlay and CarPlay will become a killer platform

Yeah, my next car would ideally be a high-clearance 4x4 so I could get to some hard to reach places (off-road in national parks and forests for landscape photography) and apart from the Tiguan there isn't much... And like, almost every other Chevrolet is listed, but the Trax, then no Mazda, no Jeep, no Toyota... Although somewhat of a minor feature, I would much rather my next car comes with it...

Subaru Outback & Forester and the Mazda CX-5 have better clearance than Tiguan.
