well, objectively, while Apple's competitors have created "smart" audio devices that embrace the entire ecosystem of audio options available to consumers, Apple has decided to wall out those who don't participate in their "pay wall". Tell me, what do you have to say about that?
Does Google Home support Apple Music without using another device to stream it from? #AllAudioOptions

haha did your argument just fall apart?

The video forgot to include how nice it is for anybody to be able to access the owner's iMessage, calendar, etc.
Which you can turn off if you’re that worried.

Box it back up, return it and use the money to get a Sonos. That is how you get the most out of it.
The HomePod sounds better than the Sonos and I have $15,000 worth of sound equipment, so I do care about sound.

Does the HomePod sound as good as my home theater? No, but it’s better than Sonos, for my ears at least.

I think HomePod is generally considered the best speaker of all the smart speakers, based on what I’ve seen.

I also like using my iPhone's Control Center for HomePod control.

Even better would be a small remote, say for $29, that would just offer basic functions; volume up/down, play/pause, next track, etc. Kind of like the remotes that came with the Mac Mini.

Kinda like the little remote that came with my first Echo two (three?) years ago?

For good sound I have a Dot plugged into a component system with a real Graphic EQ. Apple shuns custom equalization - they can stick their HomePoo where back up where our came from lol.

Damn listening to that video on my computer really confused my HomePod in the other room. Interestingly, it never triggered my iPhone which is sitting on my desk next to the computer. Maybe my phone knows my voice but the HomePod is set to respond to anyone.

Me as well. Funny!

There‘s a logic that the HomePod is the prior Siri contact when in use. Mac or as in your case iPhones than are not supposed to do any action. Else all your devices would answer at once which of course is not intended.

Well the big difference between the competitors and Apple is that the competitors have always made products for all ecosystems. While Apple has always been different in that regard, they have created their own ecosystem which has worked well for them as you can see in the sale of products.
It’s not surprising Apple Music works so well on the HomePod. And it’s more cumbersome to play Spotify on your HomePod. Apple is just trying to get more people to jump to Apple Music.
The funny thing is all these shortcomings of the HomePod were well known way before launch.

I feel like the dictation portion is misleading. Siri can't auto handle punctuation marks, right? Would he have had to actual say "question mark" and "explanation point" at the end of his sentence for the messages to show up the way they do in the titles?

It’s not about revenue, principally - it’s about 1984-style surveillance and social control. You think Apple isn’t engaging in the same activity?

They just closed a deal with China which gives the Chinese government full access to all iCloud Data of Chinese Population. canceled my iCloud sub after that came out.
And then looking at the TOS in some parts google seems to have better privacy than apple...

That is if you been living under a rock, just got out, found the Home Pod and bought it.
People who buy Home Pod are in the Apple ecosystem, they know exactly what to expect from it and that's who this Home Pod is aimed to. Why would I want 2 Sonos if their sound quality is inferior to Home Pod? So Home Pod does not play Spotify directly? Big freaking deal! For millions of people Apple Music is just as good. And these are the consumers this Home Pod is targeted to.

The Sonos One is a very capable speaker, I have two which I use in a stereo setup and I for one would not knock Sonos. The question is do they match the HomePod and I have to say in a stereo setup in my view they come very close. However a single Sonos One does not come anywhere near a single HomePod and personally would not expect it would. The HomePod produces a very different sound, the sound is more layered and one needs to listen to it in one’s home to understand. Just like the Sonos One, individuals can not appreciate the quality of the sound in a store environment, they do need to try them out in their own home. When Apple does release the update to enable two HomePods to work together in stereo or whatever they call it, the HomePod will be on a another level. That’s my view and and at the same time acknowledge the fact many will disagree.

One weird thing about the homepod is that it doesn't have a battery so you can't easily/quickly take it out in to the garden/patio when having friends over.

A pretty honest review worth watching on what the homepod can or cant do from an Apple fan -

If you use Alexa, great use Sonos. If you're going to use HomeKit, then HomePod is the way to go.

But that doesn’t really answer my question. Which is what does the HomePod do that I can’t already do with Alexa or Google Assistant? Besides the obvious, which is allow me to easily use iOS stuff on the speaker.

I am really curious from the assistant side in HomePod of what I’m missing. That I can’t already do with Alexa.

No, even better, it has Alexa built in (and google coming). Alexa works with far more products than the walled garden homekit products that are few and far between and overpriced.

For example, my security system (Vivint), has been in my house a couple of years. Take a guess at which smart services it works with and which one it doesn't.

So tell me, will a Sonos speaker act as a HomeKit hub?

My HomePod was SO confused with me playing this video out loud. I now also have a reminder to make more cookies in an hour.
