Apple today uploaded three short 15 second ads in its "The Rock x Siri" series, with content that's primarily been pulled from the main three minute "The Rock x Siri Dominate the Day" video, which was originally released on July 23.

Each video features The Rock interacting with Siri to set a reminder, take a selfie, and set a timer. The reminder video is new, while the selfie and timer videos feature scenes from the original spot.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson originally teased his partnership with Apple and Siri as a movie, complete with a movie poster, but it turned out that instead of a short film, his feature with Apple was simply an ad spot.

"I partnered with #Apple to make the BIGGEST, COOLEST, CRAZIEST, DOPEST, MOST OVER THE TOP, FUNNEST (is that even a word?) movie ever," The Rock wrote on Facebook ahead of the ad's launch.

Apple is using The Rock to show off the range of tasks that can be completed using the Siri personal assistant built in to the iPhone and the iPad. "You should never, ever, under any circumstances underestimate how much Dwayne Johnson can get done in a day with Siri," reads the description for the first video.

Take the celebrity bit out of it and you're left with showing off tech that's years old: set a reminder, take a picture(okay, they got me there, new to me that one) and lastly set a timer.

Wish they actually showed off something impressive... but it's Siri so that's just not possible yet I guess.

Everyone is so fast to criticize Siri, I was unaware every member at macrumors was a software dev with their own, superior, AI.

Siri does what it does. Hating on it doesn't make it do more.

I use Siri to set alarms. For me, that's all that is needed in an assistant.

If I want to turn the sprinklers on, I go turn them on.

Let's go back just a decade. :)

I use my mobile phone to make calls, for me that's all I need in a phone.

If I want to play games, write an e-mail, check my calendar, surf the internet, do my banking, I go sit in a chair and do it on my desktop at home or at my work computer.

Siri has been out for an entire 6 years in Oct. It's advanced very poorly... in my armchair dev opinion of course. :D

But where Siri needs to be addressed is with deciphering and dictation. I use you Siri all the time and being it varies with the results how accurate it is. Siri is also server-based as well, which also plays a role based on results.

That said, I think Apple is working very hard to have Siri ready for iOS 11 and with the launch of the HomePod, which is going to be half of the dependency using the HomePod with Siri. I Think the much needed changes are coming, but in due time.

Cause what did we ever do before mobile phones to remember things we needed to do, hey.

Write a quick list on paper, just as one might do on our mobile.

He told Siri to take a selfie. She took three.

Aside from 'set a timer' and 'I see a little silhouette of a man'; she is fairly frustrating to use. About 50% of the time, I get '"Here's what I found searching for..."

The most off base apple advert since the short lived "genius" line of advertising. I would say Apple should go back to "mac vs PC", but to be honest windows is making leaps and bounds these days. OSX, sorry, MacOS is looking tired and out of date, nowhere is it pushing ground, only catch up. It's only JUST discovered a proper in-house graphics API. Congratulations, DirectX welcomes you to 1994!

Soon as Apple security becomes compromised I am jumping ship. IT really is the only thing that's keeping me to the ecosystem at this point in time.

Alexa and google are better. Don't need my own AI to distinguish. Similar to mostly everything as for ex I don't need my own airline to know which airline is a good one with good service compared to bad ones.

Let’s give some concrete examples. What do you think are the areas that Siri is behind? Most people just say Siri is behind but never give good examples.

Concrete examples as to why Alexa and google now are better please.

Hating on it is literally what will make it do more.

We hated on how Apple wasn't treating it's pro consumers right and they publicly announced they'd change that with a better Mac Pro coming soon.

Plus, we can see from Google Assistant that it is absolutely possible that it could be better.

Here's a good comparison video. They can both do a lot of things just fine. One of the biggest issues though, is that Google seems to more consistently find the answer to a question while Siri might just google it and show "results from the web." Another big thing is that Siri is rarely conversational. It often won't remember what you just asked, whereas Google Assistant does. These are seen at 2:24 in the video.

For most things in the video, Siri was obviously faster almost every time and give much better graphical and much more info.

What song is it? --- google failed and went to the web.
Who is the president? --- siri failed and went to the web
Show me german shepherd? --- google failed
What's going on? ---- both seems to have failed

In the end, both sides can do pretty much everything you asked them and sometimes they failed.

That goes back to the annoying myth that most people came to believe that Google Assistant and Alexa is way ahead of Siri.

This seems more like a over kill. How did he talk in Space? There is no sound and air in the Space. Siri is not going to hear your scream :p

I think you are forgetting the fact that the iPhone is way below its operating temperatures. Outer space is like -270 Celsius.

I agree that Siri could definitely be better, but I think Apple is making some good progress. From all the demos of the beta on youtube, iOS 11 Siri is definitely more accurate in terms of search and understands context way better.
